2 What is the UK Youth Parliament?
Run by young people for young people, UK Youth Parliament is a national forum which provides opportunities for year olds to use their voice in creative ways to bring about social change It is composed of representatives aged years old from across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales Ensures that young people in the UK are given a voice on any issue that affects them, as laid out in Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child Supported by government and opposition parties, the UKYP runs campaigns to improve the lives of young people

3 Make Your Mark In October the UK Youth Parliament carried out the UK’s largest youth consultation called Make Your Mark. This gave young people across the country the opportunity to vote on the issue that means most to them. Young people from schools, colleges and youth groups voted. The results for Suffolk are: MYPs debate these results in the House of Commons in November to decide on the UKYP campaign for the year.

4 The UK Youth Parliament in Suffolk
Members of Youth Parliament (MYPs) are elected for a two year term of office Suffolk has 8 MYPs and 8 Deputy’s across the county (Ipswich (x2), West Suffolk, Bury, Waveney, South Suffolk, Central Suffolk and Coastal Each Member is offered support to bring their campaign to life The programme is free of charge with no expenses covered by members Find out about Suffolk UKYP at

5 What does an MYP do? MYPs across the UK work to give young people a voice – listening to marginalised groups, organising events, making films, meeting MPs, lobbying for change, organising campaigns and appearing in the media, all to amplify the views of their peers. Represent the young people of Suffolk at regional and national and sometimes international events - including the House of Commons Debate. Work on your very own project that is important to Suffolk’s young people. Attend local and regional UKYP meetings, make films and give presentations and speeches. Influence and engage with councillors and decision makers on a regular basis. Work with young people in Suffolk and speak on their behalf. Support the Make Your Mark campaign.

6 How to get involved There are two ways to get involved in the elections: You can stand as a candidate and campaign to win the majority of votes and get elected as an MYP or deputy MYP – Download an information and nomination pack at or or text for details. YOU WILL NEED TO PREPARE A written MANIFESTO or video clip ON YOUR APPLICATION AND DECIDE WHAT YOU WISH TO CAMPAIGN FOR! Submit by 7th January 2018.
