3 Climate vs. Weather Climate is the long term weather pattern
Weather is the condition of the atmosphere in one place during a short time period.

4 Earth’s Rotation and Tilt
The Earth’s Axis Varies Temperature Earth Revolution The earth’s axis is one reason for the different climate zones around the Earth. The axis allows for some of the earth to receive more sun light than other areas, so this affects temperatures. The earth makes a complete rotation every 24 hours from West to East. As the Earth rotates it is revolving around the sun…one complete revolution is 365 ¼ days. The axis and revolving earth works together to cause seasonal changes. Seasons are reversed in the northern and southern hemisphere.

5 Lines of Latitude Tropic of Cancer Equator Tropic of Capricorn
Where direct sun rays hits determines the temperature and season. The three lines of latitude you have to remember are the Tropic of Cancer, Equator, and Tropic of Capricorn. These are the main lines of latitude that receive direct rays from the sun and determines seasonal shifts in climate. Where direct sun rays hit determine the seasons of the world.

6 Latitude Zones Low-Latitudes (1) High-Latitudes (2) Mid-Latitudes (2)
