Primary objectives are: Develop human resources through the implementation of a tailored training programme Develop a network of experts Provide technical support for lifecycle equipment management and scientific support for the detection of and the response to nuclear security events 1 Training needs assessment 2 Training programme Qualified instructors 3 Training implementation 4 Technical & scientific support services Long-term sustainability of nuclear security capabilities Phase 1 - HRD Phase 2

5 International Network of Nuclear Security Support Centres (NSSC) - I
29 December 2018 International Network of Nuclear Security Support Centres (NSSC) - I Since Feb 2012 Supports sharing of information Membership: open to all IAEA Member States, observers and other relevant stakeholders Objectives: promote a high level of NS training and support facilitate cooperation and assistance in activities to optimize use of available resources To coordinate current and future efforts in States or regions to establish and maintain these centres, the IAEA facilitated organisation of a collaboration network among the different operators of such centres and other relevant stakeholders. Forty-seven(47) representatives from 30 Member States and a number of international organizations agreed by consensus on terms of reference for the network and decided to name it International Network for Nuclear Security Training and Support Centres (NSSC). Currently, more than 90 members from 40 institutions worldwide. Coordinated collaboration among Centres within the Network will accelerate sharing of generic information and experience and lessons learned across borders, will accelerate the development of nuclear security capacities, will foster nuclear security culture and will lead to innovative approaches in the area of training delivery and technical and scientific support function provision. 29 December December December 2018

8 Conclusions Capacity Building (CB) is critical for States to establish & maintain effective & sustainable nuclear security regime. The Agency continues its coordinating role among Member States’ programmes dedicated to nuclear security. IAEA Division of Nuclear Security is ready to continue supporting States in developing their CB through: Comprehensive Training Programme: more than 80 training events annually International Nuclear Security Training and Support Centre Network (NSSC)
