2. Ordinary world
Percy Jackson lives in NYC. He tries to be an “normal” kid, but he has dyslexia and ADHD. He gets kicked out of many boarding schools.

3. The call to adventure
Percy is attacked during a school field trip by Mrs. Dodds who keeps asking about a bolt. She turns out to be a fury. Mr. Brunner comes to the rescue.
A minotaur attacks Percy on his way to Camp Half Blood where his training will begin. The minotaur attacks his mom. Percy uses the pen that Mr. Brunner gives him to kill the monster.

4. Entering the unknown (Threshold)
Percy wakes up 3 days later after killing the minotaur and must learn all the rules of Camp Half Blood.
He has to learn how to fight with a sword and different weapons from Chrion (Mr. Brunner).
He has to learn how to use his ability to control water.

5. Meeting the mentor
Mr. Brunner gives Percy Riptide which turns into a full length sword.
Chiron (Mr. Brunner) tells Percy about the lightning thief and explains that if Zeus’ lighting bolt is not returned by the summer solstice, a war between the gods could come and all of earth will be destroyed. Percy may not have the bolt, but Zeus thinks he does.

7. The road of trials (Challenges)
Medusa
Along their journey, Percy, Grover, and Annabeth reach the Gnome Gardens. They decide to take a look inside. The lady that works there seems really nice and shows them stone statues. Annabeth and Grover realize its not a woman but Medusa. The three friends avoid Medusa’s stare. With one final strike, Percy cuts off her head.

8. The road of trials (Challenges)
St. Louis Arch
Percy is separated from Annabeth and Grover and finds himself on the observation deck. Another tourist was there too. Percy thinks she is odd looking and then she turns into Chimera. Percy is bitten in the leg and jumps off the arch into the water to be healed. He is greeted by a water nymph sent by his father. She gives him three pearls that allow the trio to escape the underworld.

9. The road of trials (Challenges)
Errand for Ares
Ares meets Percy at the diner and promises him news about his mom if he gets Ares shield that he left at the tunnel of love. Percy accepts and takes his allies with him. They see the shield sitting in the middle. When Percy goes to get it, he trips a wire and sets off a trap. The cupids on the walls start shooting arrows at them and mechanical spiders come out of the drains to attack them. All three escape unharmed and return to the shield to Ares. He provides them with information and a backpack of supplies.

10. The road of trials (Challenges)
Lotus Casino Next they go to the Lotus Casino in Las Vegas. What the trio does not know is that magic is at play that makes you lose track of time and stay there like a prisoner thinking no time has passed when really you lose years! Percy, Annabeth, and Grover fall into a trance and stay there for days. Percy breaks out of the trance and helps his friends. They escape before the guards capture them.

11. The supreme ordeal ( The Abyss)
Percy, Annabeth, and Grover reach the underworld. They travel to Hades’ Palace to meet him. Percy feared Hades more than anyone else, so facing him is his biggest challenge. They demand the lightning bolt and Percy’s mom. Hades gets angry and blames Percy for stealing the bolt and also accuses him of stealing Hades’s Helm of Darkness. He looks inside the backpack that Ares gave him and sees the lighting bolt inside. Hades demands the Helm and threatens to kill his mom. Hades then sends his skeleton army to attack them. Percy uses the pearls and smashes them on the ground so that they can escape the Underworld with their lives and the bolt.

12. The magic flight
After Percy defeats Ares and the bolt is given back to Zeus, Percy’s friend Luke is revealed to be the lightning thief and the number one servant of Kronos.

13. Confronting the father
Luke tries to kill Percy by calling on a scorpion, but Percy kills the scorpion. Luke gets away.

14. Restoring the world ( The Return)
Percy went to Mount Olympus and returned the lighting bolt. Zeus was grateful and decided to spare Percy’s life. Percy also met his father who told him he was proud of Percy. Finally Percy returned to Camp Half Blood where a huge party was thrown for him. Percy is recognized as a hero. He returns to NYC where he finds his mother alive.
