1 Welcome to Ms.Silverstein’s English 2R Class!

2 What do I need for English class?
1) Three ring binder with loose-leaf paper 2) Sturdy folder for holding a lot of handouts 3) Five dividers labeled as follows: Writing Literature 3) Vocabulary 4) MUGS (mechanics, usage and grammar) 5) Other (usually for writing prompts)

3 Teacher Expectations:
Author techniques Listen and learn Contact with parents and guidance Models Goals Scholarly work Plagiarism vigilance

4 Student Expectations Come to class and be on time.
Do all your homework and bring it to school with you each day. Bring all necessary materials to class. Listen carefully. No headphones, cell phones, electronic devices or other homework for different classes. No “working together” or internet help unless instructed to do so. Inform me of life events. Adhere to school rules and codes. Always abide by honor code.

Point system Weighting: 70/30 Essays/papers: points Homework: varied/5 points Projects, presentations: varied Vocab quizzes: 45 points Vocab midterm and final: 100 points

9 Homework Homework is posted on the board and on your monthly calendars. Homework should be done nightly and not postponed. Put in a solid hour per night on English alone. Homework will be marked late if not shown on day of return after absent. No “help”—all homework should be completed independently unless otherwise indicated in directions.

15 Honor Code “On my honor, I have neither given nor received any unauthorized aid on this test, quiz, etc. Type all papers and upload to turnitin.com by due date (penalty if late to turnitin) Any undocumented or improperly documented material included in your work is considered plagiarism. Any talking or visible notes or phones during an exam are considered cheating.
