24 Student Representation Operational Group (SROG)
Run in partnership between the Students' Union and the University Evaluate and improve the Student Rep system Reviewed 2015 The purpose of the Student Representation Operations Group is to work in partnership to: Ensure the consistent delivery of the student rep system, including course representatives, departmental representatives and student representation on University and Students' Union committees Evaluate and improve the student rep system to ensure that it contributes to the ongoing enhancement of courses and University and Students' Union services Support the personal development of student reps To report regularly to Student Voice Committee on the operational delivery of student representation To ensure implementation of priorities and recommendations to enhance student academic representation including the Students' Union's Student Rep Review To evaluate the effectiveness of the student rep system To review all aspects of the student rep system, such as recruitment, registration, training and support To provide, develop and review guidance, information and support for relevant University and Students' Union staff delivering student representation To collate and share good practice to improve the student rep system on an on-going basis. To evidence and monitor the impact of student representation To recognise and celebrate student rep achievement To respond to organisational and policy changes within the University and the Students' Union that impact on student representation. To receive and respond to reports from student reps in faculties. To annually review and evaluate the group's own work and its objectives

How does your institution engage teaching staff in the student representation and partnership process? What works well? Examples include: Training (PgCert HE) Rewards and recognition (Inspirational Teacher Award) Institutional commitment (e.g. University USP or mission statement) Staff will often complain about low student take-up of rep roles and other extra-curricular activity, but there is a flip side to this.Students have the most direct relationships with their academic staff but academics are often hard to engage in the student partnership process. ~How does this work in your area?
