1
TEACHING STRATEGIES, ASSESSMENT MEASURES AND LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR “LIFE LONG LEARNING ABILITIES”
2
WHAT IS LIFE LONG LEARNING IMPORTANCE OF LIFE LONG LEARNING
3
A LIFE LONG LEARNER IS A person who is: :-Self-aware and reflective of his on-going learning needs :- Self-assesses for knowledge and skill deficiencies and sets appropriate learning goals and tasks :-Can find appropriate resources and learning opportunities :- Understands her or his learning preferences and knows how to adapt them to maximize learning under different circumstances :-Sufficiently motivated to do so
4
LIFE LONG TEACHING STRATEGIES
:-METACOGNITIVE SKILLS :-SELF DIRECTEDNESS
5
INSTRUCTIONAL METHODOLIGIES FOR DEVELOPING LIFE LONG LEARNING SKILLS
PROBLEM BASED LEARNING(PBL)-What resources are used What research methods Why and how they can be improved in future INTENTIONAL LEARNING:-Pursued and controlled by the learner Students can engage in cooperative knowledge building
6
LIFE LONG LEARNING SKILLS
Cognitive apprenticeship :-It is a theory of the process where a master of a skill teaches that skill to an apprentice For eg:- Traditional apprenticeships, in which the apprentice learns a trade such as tailoring or woodworking by working under a master teacher, cognitive apprenticeships allow the master to model behaviors in a real-world context with cognitive modeling
7
Modeling:-Learning occurs through modeling by expert individuals and coaching by mentor. Teacher perform a task ,builds conceptual model of the process and explain things -Students observe, listen and conceptualize Coaching:-Teacher observes students attempt a task ,provide assistance as needed -In this ,students are given the task and engage in problem solving Scaffolding:-Teacher offer little support, assists learner to manage complex task and gradually removes supports -Students perform more complex task
8
Articulation:-Teacher requires students to explain what they are doing their knowledge , reasoning, and problem solving strategies -Students explain their knowledge and discuss their strategies Reflection:-Students are encouraged to reflect on their task and comparing their work with others -Students reflect on work performed , by comparing it to others Exploration:-Students are encouraged to solve new similar tasks and pushes them to be independent and engage in exploration -Students solve new tasks ,make independent discoveries and identify personal interests
9
WHAT ARE ASSESSMENT METHODS
Assessment methods are the strategies, techniques, tools and instruments for collecting information to determine the extent to which students demonstrate desired learning outcomes
10
WHAT ARE ASSESSMENT MEASURES FOR LIFE LONG LEARNING
11
Diagnostic Assessment:-It tells us what the student need to learn:-Diagnostic assessment is a form of pre-assessment that allows a teacher to determine students' individual strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills prior to instruction. It is primarily used to diagnose student difficulties and to guide lesson and curriculum planning. Formative Assessment:-How well the students is doing:-It is a great way to measure students performance during can be used by instructors to improve their teaching and by students to improve their learning instruction and usually occurs regularly throughout the instruction process :-Help students identify their strengths and weaknesses and target areas that need work :- Help faculty recognize where students are struggling and address problems immediately Evaluation helps in improving the individual performance Summative Assessment:- Tells us how well the student did at the end of a unit/task. Evaluation of an individual learner used for judgments or To evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark decisions about the individual – Motivation of individual to maintain or improve performance – Grades – Promotion
12
ASSESSMENT FOR LEARNING
Assessment tasks Authentic test Research-like activities:-Gathering data, lab test Collaboration and teamwork Creativity and imagination Critical thinking Problem solving
13
LEARNING OUTCOMES OF LIFE LONG LEARNING ABILITIES
:-A HEALTHY SENSE OF SELF :-A FRAMEWORK OF PERSONAL ETHICS AND VALUE :-AN ABILITY TO APPLY CRITICAL THOUGHT :-AN ABILITY TO DEVELOP AND SUSTAIN MEANINGFUL RELATIONSHIPS
14
:-A VALUE AND RESPECT FOR DIFFERENCES :-A COMMITMENT TO CITIZENSHIP :-A PURSUIT OF LIFE LONG LEARNING
