Known for building chinampas. Artificial islands made of dirt and piled on reed mats that were anchored on a shallow lake bed. This allowed them to grow crops such as corn, squash, and beans.

6 Through rich tombs and temples we know that priests and aristocrats stood at the top of Olmec society. Each village had their own king.

Unique Mayan farming methods allowed them to flourish throughout much of Central America.
