NAR Calls Tax Reform Legislation “A Clear and Present Danger to American Homeownership”
NAR opposes the tax reform legislation unveiled in the House last week, labeling the bill “a direct threat to consumers, homeowners and our businesses.” Not only will millions of homeowners not benefit from the proposal, many will get a tax increase. Additionally, homeowners could lose substantial equity from the more than 10% drop in home values likely to result if the bill is enacted.

Houston Market Movements
The national unemployment rate registered 4.1 percent for October To put that in perspective, joblessness has not been this low in the U.S. since December In other positive economic news, mortgage rates have been holding steady at or near 3.9 percent. Historically, the average rate has been around 6.0 percent. Factors such as these keep the pool of potential buyers full, even during the so-called off-season of residential real estate sales.
In the Houston region, for the week ending October 29:
• New Listings increased 2.9% to 2,318
• Pending Sales increased 21.7% to 1,833
• Closed Sales decreased 10.3% to 1,670
