Producing the standard list of
counting words (one, two, three…)

3. RATIONAL COUNTING
Assigning one number word for each item (one-to-one correspondence)
Last number represents the number of items
Understanding that the size of the objects does not matter, arrangement of them does not matter
The order or sequence or direction does not matter

4. COUNTING ALL
Counting all objects in a group, regardless of arrangement, starting with one and ending with the total number in the group.

5. COUNTING ON
Being able to recognize a group as representing a number and continuing on to count an additional group.
Ex.) * * * * * * * * *
Student would recognize 5 in the first group and would say “six, seven, eight, nine”

Being able to count every second or third, or fourth… item (forward and backward)
