5 Managing High Highs & Low Lows
Managing high highs (and low lows) Best session ever Evolving relationships -- deeper can mean more political -- Chelsea/job and making peace with it Allison Just when everything is perfect, the world checks you! Best presentation of my life at IECA this spring Not one to toot my own horn, but still At the same time, wasn’t the hero in any other category One doesn’t negate the other!

7 Relationships: Political Personal
Allison Survived some tough transitions by developing work wives Within my company (we share an office now) Outside and within the professional So many women cheer me up and get me through the tough stuff sometimes remind me they struggle too sometimes putting my stress in perspective But as those I progress professionally, those relationships get deeper… and more complicated Big shifts Competing for a big promotion with my work wife The person who I most wanted to process this stuff with was wrapped up in it Felt trapped She got it! Settled into my own (better fit role) Had to dealt with some real FOMO feelings Then eventually realized I was in a MUCH better fit role and didn’t actually want her job Best moment was a few months later: dinner at Cheesecake, toasting to her Now I get to be the supporter to her in a totally different way, has made our relationship even better

8 My Job Search Decided to do a job search, I did LDI and was told, it is important to look for a job while you are still happy at your current position. So a position came up that I was interested

9 What Changed?

10 Fulfillment and Being a Regional
It can be really hard managing everything while being a regional. I travel a lot, about 30 weeks in the year

11 WACAC Leadership Beginning with the end in mind. Networking, task building and implementation. My first WACAC session. Volunteering with purpose. Leading by doing.

12 Working for and with men in a “facetime” culture:
Learning to use my voice Asking for direction while giving direction to my program SONIA

13 Balancing Home Responsibilities
SONIA Being a Workoholic Single mom…..my story. Being a Superwoman today

14 Bringing others along… and focusing on flexibility over perfection
Restructuring in office - Associate Director to manage entry-level staff Last year, shared planning counselor fly-in program - changes coming this year and I am ready for it No “magic answer” to figuring out the life-work balance, but I can be flexible and creative Restructuring in office - Associate Director to manage entry-level staff: Institution considering new supervision model – institution, division, and I were all ready, Took almost a full year of meetings and negotiations, but will be implementing July 1, Had to own up that I can’t “do it all”, I was not doing what was best for my staff or our office Last year, shared planning counselor fly-in program: Surprised that I was ready to pass it on, but I was after three years, Different challenges and focus (ED1 engagement, strategic planning, WACAC, staff changes) No “magic answer” to figuring out the life-work balance, but I can be flexible and creative: Collision course this year with husband’s new (very demanding) job, more travel, and kids in school, Out of the exhaustion phase of motherhood, but more task-oriented parenthood phase, Balance of how to stay organized, support children’s growth and failure, carve out some time for me

15 What’s Your Superpower?
