But when I started in the cycling sector I was confused.
I really didn’t understand why the bicycle industry was giving donations to the users federation to do advocacy.
But once I started talking to our colleagues in the industry like Accell, SRAM, Cycleurope and our trade federation CONEBI I realised that in cycling this is just a smarter way to spend money. Because what cycling needs more than anything is better places for people to ride. And to achieve that we have to have advocates at local, national and international level. Something industry is not set up to do.
But we are fortunate that we had ready partners at the EU level with ECF and its members – As Kevin has shown they are experts in leveraging money and policy so that money gets spent on cycling, so it is obviously a great investment for us to support their work.
