Presentation on theme: "Check out your rubric for your portfolio project!"— Presentation transcript:

1 Check out your rubric for your portfolio project!
Read the description of an “A” portfolio. Star anything on the “A” description that you have already done. Continue to the “B” portfolio and read it carefully. Highlight the words in the “A” description that show you the difference between an “A” and a “B.” Read the “C,” “D,” and “F” descriptions. Have any questions ready.

2 “Dear Reader” Letter Persuasive Letter with some information in it
Introduce your portfolio idea and argument – what are you showing through your portfolio? You may need to do some research on your topic, or you can simply share examples and information that you have gathered from different texts we have looked at. Remember the three ways to persuade… Ethos: your credibility – why should we trust you? Why are you an expert? Why are you saying something that matters? Pathos: emotion – make your reader feel what you want them to feel Logos: facts and logic – give us information to help support your ideas

3 Today’s Assignments (due tomorrow at the BEGINNING of class, no exceptions)
Read “Just Walk on By” Read “Yes, I Follow Islam, but I’m Not a Terrorist” Annotate both as you read. Create a Venn diagram. Complete it, comparing and contrasting the two texts. On the back of your Venn diagram, you need to write three paragraphs (guys, how long is a paragraph in 12th grade???) 1) What do these narratives show about stereotypes, bias, prejudice, and racism in the United States? Give evidence from both to support. 2) What connections can you make between these narratives and other texts we have read/watched? Give at least three specific examples. 3) What can be done in America to improve stereotypes, bias, prejudice, and racism? Give at least three suggestions.
