2012 was a very successful year for TEEB as regards high-level policy decisions
2. Notes existing efforts by a number of Parties to prepare national studies on the economics of ecosystems and biodiversity, and encourages other Parties and Governments to also consider, as appropriate, the preparation of such studies, making use of the findings of the international study on The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity (TEEB) and of similar work at the national or regional levels, involving all relevant stakeholders, and to identify mechanisms and measures to integrate the values of biodiversity into relevant national and local policies, programmes and planning processes, as well as reporting systems, in a manner adapted to national circumstances;

While the TEEB report series provides all information – difficult to apply.
The UNEP TEEB office is taking a lead on the collection and re-packaging of TEEB training materials for capacity development that aims to encourage TEEB implementation at the national level plus the required support needed at workshops/meetings including CBD regional workshops, Rio+20, IUCN congress and CBD Cop 11.
A guidance manual is being developed and will be drawing on the TEEB reports from phases 1 &2. Its aim is to provide practical recommendations for those working at the national level on the implementation of TEEB methodologies for the assessment of ecosystem services and their economic valuation
(not prescriptive but has to be followed to call “TEEB”)

10. EC-funded TEEB National Implementation project:
Reflecting the Value of Ecosystems and Biodiversity in Policymaking
Objective:
“draw attention to the economic benefits of biodiversity, highlighting the growing cost of biodiversity loss and ecosystem degradation and drawing together expertise from the fields of ecosystem science, economics and development policy to support the mainstreaming of biodiversity and ecosystem considerations in national policymaking”
Launched at CBD COP-11 side event on “How to factor natural capital into decision making and leverage biodiversity finance?” in October 2012
Implemented over three years
Three components:
1.) Guidance Material and Training
2.) Implementation of country projects
3.) Communication and Outreach
The project is a response to the interest and demand expressed by developing countries, including LDCs, to implement TEEB.

11. The role of the TEEB UNEP Office
developing guidance and training material
keeping track of national TEEB initiatives
guiding initiatives via TEEB network of experts
connecting projects to each other (exchange of expertise and success stories) and funding options
providing a platform to present national and sub-national TEEB projects (workshops, TEEBrief, website)
national, regional and local capacity building
providing – where possible – technical assistance (e.g. support with writing of project proposals; review of local, national and regional TEEB draft outputs)
coordinating the TEEB ENRTP project
Two methods of support are envisaged for this facilitation: IT IS facilitation
For the developed countries UNEP will act as a host and adopts a facilitation role, putting relevant experts in contact with each other. Under this option, UNEP would not actively participate in the development of national studies, and would not provide funding to countries wishing to undertake TEEB work.
For those developing countries, UNEP will take a more active and participatory role. This option would provide UNEP with the ability to become more directly involves in country level studies, including being able to provide some funding support.

Throughout the process, a strength of TEEB as compared to other initiative was its strong communications and outreach which is therefore also an important component of phase III
