1 Forces and Motion review

2 Copy This! WU1/4/18 What are the three class BE Rules? Explain What They Mean. Be Polite – Be respectful- give respect to get respect Be Prepared – Bring positive attitude and supplies Be Prompt – Do the right thing at the right time.

3 1. How are distance, time and speed related
1. How are distance, time and speed related? Sketch and divide relevant graphs. Speed = distance ÷ time Slope on a distance time graph =speed Flat horizontal line = at rest Diagonal line( slope) = speed Steeper slope = faster speed

4 2. How are velocity and acceleration related
2. How are velocity and acceleration related? Sketch and describe relevant graphs. Acceleration = change in velocity ÷ change in time. Speeding up, slowing down (deceleration) changing direction

5 3. How do balanced forces affect motion
3. How do balanced forces affect motion? Use free body diagrams as part of your explanations Balanced forces = equal forces in opposite directions. If the object is at rest it will stay at rest (Newton’s 1st Law) Net force = 100N- 100N = 0N If the object is moving it will continue moving at constant velocity.

6 4. How do unbalanced forces affect motion
4. How do unbalanced forces affect motion? Use free body diagrams as part of your explanation. Which of Newton’s Laws does this relate to? Lift and weight due to gravity are balanced So the plane stays in the air. Thrust force is bigger than the drag force it is unbalanced and so the plane moves to the Left. Newton’ 1st law Objects at rest or in motion will continue at rest or in motion Unless acted on by an unbalanced force.

7 5. How does the mass of an object affect acceleration
5. How does the mass of an object affect acceleration? Which of Newton’s Laws does this relate to? Acceleration = Force ÷ Mass To make something accelerate. Increase Force. Decrease mass

8 6. How does increasing mass and distance between two objects affect the gravitational strength between these objects? Increasing mass – Increases the gravitational attraction between two objects Increasing distance – Decreases the gravitational attraction between two objects

9 7. How are gravity and weight related?
As the acceleration due to the force of gravity increases your weight increases. As the acceleration due to the force of gravity increases your weight he

10 8.Explain Newton’s 3rd Law
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Book to earth Table to book
