2 ACHIEVING EXCELLENCE: NEXT STEPS
The vision in Achieving Excellence remains and we are building on our success to reach the goals of: achieving excellence, ensuring equity, promoting well-being and enhancing public confidence. Recently announced actions and investments will improve the student experience through developing an integrated approach to achieving the vision. Implementation plans will be developed in collaboration with educators and key stakeholders.

4 IMPROVING WELL-BEING FOR STUDENTS ACROSS ONTARIO
Following the public consultations on Student Well Being, Ontario will invest in new and expanded well-being programs for students to ensure that young people can reach their full potential and thrive inside and outside the classroom. New initiatives include: Funding for active transportation that creates more physical activity opportunities for students, Doubling funding for school boards to support local well-being priorities, including school breakfast programs, bullying prevention, recreational activities, and staff professional development, Increased funding for School Mental Health ASSIST, New and expanded programming to support staff well-being and violence prevention in the classroom.

5 UPDATED CURRICULUM, NEW REPORT CARDS COMING TO ONTARIO SCHOOLS
Ontario's updated school curriculum will be developed through the public consultations with the goal of improving student achievement in core skills such as math and increasing emphasis on transferable life skills (also known as global competencies) that can help students of all ages meet the changing demands of today and tomorrow.  By consulting with students, parents, teachers and other partners, the province also aims to: help students take full advantage of their education experience, place an increased emphasis on equity and well-being, update provincial assessment and reporting practices (including EQAO), enhance parents’ access to information. Global competencies (also called transferable skills) are overarching sets of attitudes, skills, and knowledge that can be interdependent, interdisciplinary, and leveraged in a variety of situations both locally and globally.

6 THE EDUCATION EQUITY ACTION PLAN, ONTARIO BOOSTING OPPORTUNITIES FOR
STUDENTS' LONG-TERM SUCCESS Through Ontario’s Education Equity Action Plan the Ministry will work with boards and education partners on ways of addressing systemic barriers and discriminatory practices The action plan will address four key areas: School and Classroom Practices Leadership, Governance and Human Resource Practices Data Collection, Integration and Reporting Organizational Culture Change

7 Teacher and Teacher Candidate Diversity
Pathways that ensure equity of access for all students to post-secondary education, particularly teacher education All students need to see themselves reflected in their teachers Attention needs to be paid to students who are: Indigenous Racialized “At risk” Decisions about academic or applied pathways affect post-secondary choices

Equity of access to teacher education is key to the success of education in Ontario Some areas of immediate focus for school boards include: French-language education French as a Second Language Indigenous Education Technological Education A long-term shared focus includes diverse representation in the teaching profession
