What is a narrative essay?
An essay that tells a story Often these stories are anecdotal, experiential, and persona. Writing narrative essays allows you to express yourself in a creative way

How is a narrative essay different from a short story?
Narrative essays usually tell of a personal experience with the purpose of teaching a lesson or point. Usually non-fiction (discuses facts) A short story is not necessarily told through the point of view of the writer, and focuses more on unveiling a theme. Usually fiction

Writing a narrative essay
A narrative essay should include all the parts of a story Plot Characters Setting Climax Conclusion

Purpose Narrative essays must tell a story that has a point
The story must revolve around some lesson or point that the reader will come to understand through the reading of the essay. As the essay is read the point is revealed to the reader.

Point of View Usually narrative essays are told through the point of view of the author. Through writing in the first person perspective the author is often able to use their creativity to create interesting and captivating stories.

Language Narrative essays are like descriptive essays in that they should use clear and pointed language. Words should be carefully chosen to evoke emotions and appeal to the senses of the reader. The use of the word I is welcome, however it should not be overused.

Organization Introduction: Sets the tone for the remainder of the essay. Should make the purpose clear. Guide the development of the body to the purpose of the essay. Use varied lengths paragraphs and sentences A conclusion should bring your essay to a close that reminds the reader of your point.
