Welcome to Basic Foods Ms. MaryAnne MacLean Periods 1 and 4

2 What is Basic Foods? Basics Foods is an introductory course to the study of foods and their preparations.  The course is offered to all grade level students and provides skills needed for kitchen organization, safety, sanitation, and food selection in a cooperative setting.

5 Grading Policy 44% grade is tests 6% grade is homework
As per Board of Education policy for Family and Consumer Science Courses 44% grade is tests 6% grade is homework 50% grade is class participation(includes Food Labs) Full policy can be found on my Teacher Page

6 Food Labs All students must participate in all labs.
Lab grades are individual grades based upon each student’s assigned job. Jobs rotate each lab Cook Assistant Cook Dishwasher Dish Dryer Clean-Up

7 Classwork Expectations
There are NOT many homework assignments in this class, however, there are many class participation assignments. All classwork is listed on Google Classroom All work is due when assigned. Every day late= 10% off Late work is NOT accepted after 2 weeks. Students can not expect to receive a good grade if they are not completing class work even if they are participating in Labs.

8 How to help your child succeed
Check the portal at least weekly for missing assignments. Encourage your child to do the same. Stress the importance of organization and turning work in on time.

9 Communication Methods
The easiest way to reach me is by . Extra Help is available Mon-Thurs afterschool in Room D119 until 2:15 pm.

10 Attendance Attendance is very important.
Labs are not able to be made-up. Each students is given 2 “Exempts” for missing Labs each marking period. After 2 missed labs, students MUST prepare a food at home and complete the appropriate lab report. Students will be given options.
