1 Unit 5 MI activity: Display the Day Three slide as candidates are entering the classroom. SBDI Course u NYSED © 2010

2 Unit 4 Review What was the most important thing you learned last class? What’s your main question or worry at this point? Presentation goal MI activity: Ask one of the candidates to lead this opening round-table exercise. Each candidate should speak to each question on the slide. Use the activity as an opportunity to clarify or re-emphasize issues and ideas. SBDI Course u NYSED © 2010

4 Presentation Observation Form #2
Page Write objective as you hear it Is it SAM? No closed-end yes/no answers Provide comments in EFFECTIVE and NEEDS WORK columns. MI ACTIVITY: The candidates have used Presentation Form #1 for two presentations. It is a good starting place, but that form encourages just yes/no answers that don’t provide much specific assistance to the presenter. Their experience with that form combined with hearing your very specific comments should give them the skill to move to a more responsive form. Pass out Form #2 (page ) for the 8-10 minute presentations. Form #2 asks them to use their growing awareness of presenting to offer specific comments in either the EFFECTIVE column or the NEEDS IMPROVEMENT column for 5 criteria, Introduction Content, Conclusion, Evaluation and Stage presence. They are also asked to write exactly what they heard as an objective and to judge if it was SPECIFIC, ATTAINABLE, and EFFECTIVE. SBDI Course u NYSED © 2010

5 Candidate Presentations
8-10 minutes “The bad habit that currently worries me most about the bus drivers I see every day.” Everyone must help evaluate MI activity: Use the slide to kick off the candidate 8-10 minute PowerPoint template presentations. Remind the class that they will once again have to complete the evaluation form at the conclusion of each presentation. Again, candidates must come to the front of the room for their presentations. Help them get their PowerPoint files loaded on the computer. Time and record the presentations. Lead the class in applauding at the conclusion of each presentation, and lead the group evaluation process as before. When MIs speak, point out the growth between today’s presentations and yesterday’s whenever possible. SBDI Course u NYSED © 2010

6 Instructional Plan Template
Get with partner Review plan in DETAIL Critique each other – make suggestions Present each other’s plan to the group in detail (OK to hold back surprises) At this point, the 20-minute presentation should be well underway. Give pairs minutes to explain their plans to each other. By asking the candidates to present each other’s plan to the group, the plan will need to be well-conceived enough for another candidate to understand it. Make sure they are working with a different person than they talked to last time. The note about surprises refers to a specific hook that the candidate plans to use that they might not want to announce to the class. They should, however, share it with their partner(s) in this exercise. If there is an odd number of candidates, have one group of 3 or have one candidate partner with an MI.
