1 Earthquake By:  Cameron Dylan Kyra

2 An Earthquake is a trembling of the ground that results from the sudden shifting of rock  beneath the earth's crust.  EARTHQUAKES vibrate in the earth's crust. That causes shaking at the surface. When the plates move, the land shakes and quakes. The movement is an earthquake. In an earthquake, the initial point where the rocks rupture in the crust is called the focus, which is the point on the land's surface. What is an Earthquake?

3 Causes of an Earthquake
It is caused by a shift of Earth's surface or crust. The Earth is made of huge plates of rock. These plates are always moving. Most of the time they move slow. Sometimes the edges of two plates move or rub against each other. Earthquakes happen near cracks called faults. The Ring of Fire is where it starts. Causes of an Earthquake

4 Earthquake Damage Buildings May Break. Holes Can Form.
Houses Can Break. So Can Mountains. Objects May Have Moved And Could Fall Out. In 2000, Only 23 People Died . In 2004, 298,101 People Died. Cars Can Fall Into a Sink Hole.

6 Interesting facts about Earthquakes
The earth is made of layers. They fit together. Earthquakes involve the powerful movement of rocks in the earth's crust. Almost 90 percent of quakes happen in the Ring of Fire. There are more than 500,000 earthquakes per year. Earthquakes called moonquakes sometimes occur on the moon. Natural events such as volcanic eruptions and meteor impacts can cause Earthquakes. Interesting facts about Earthquakes

7 EARTHQUAKE vocabulary
Epicenter The part  earth's event surface right above where an earthquake. After  shock  A smaller earthquake that take place after a large one. Tectonic plates The layers of earth's crust that move.
