2 Open response objective:
I will be able to apply my knowledge of ratios and rates So I can calculate unit rates to show Chad’s rate of speed and his gas efficiency. I will show I know it when I can independently complete my open response problem with a score of at least a 3 out of 4. 6.RP.3

3 Today’s Language Objective
Students will be able to use the language domains of reading and writing. Students will be able to read the real world problem about Chad’s trip and write their appropriate answers by using math vocabulary and correct labels. They will be able to independently score at least a 3 out of 4 using the Open Response grading rubric to be successful. Vocabulary Gas tank, miles, hours, rates, miles per gallon, miles per hour.

4 Do NOW: (1) Complete the rough draft of your open response
You will have 15 minutes to complete this task.

5 Read the first time. Ask yourself, “what is this situation about?”
Read the problem a second time. Ask yourself, “what are the quantities in the situation?” Read the problem a third time. Ask yourself, “what mathematical questions can we ask about the situation?” This situation is about a Chad taking a trip, the amount of miles he drove and the time he drove it in. It also talks about how many gallons of gas his car uses after driving a certain number of miles. The quantities include 168, 3, 672, 11, 308. Is there a relationship between the number of miles driven and the number of hours? How can we establish an equation to represent the information? What would be the most efficient way to solve for how many miles Chad drove?

6 Classwork: (1) Take 2 minutes and turn and talk to your neighbors to clarify any misconceptions that you might have. Complete the final draft of your open response. You will have 15 minutes to complete this task.

7 topic. How do you feel?

8 Final draft and MISSING WORK

9 Accommodations Read or reread presentation or activity directions, as needed or after prompting Use examples to model and act as a guide for emerging learners
