1 “Classroom” App Kelsy Power Edu 620

2 What is it? Classroom is a free google app
It helps teachers save time, keep classes organized, and improve communication with students It is linked to your google drive, so everything is saved in real time This is an web-based app, so you can access it anywhere you have internet

3 Getting started If you don’t already have a google account, you’ll need to create one. Go to: I already have an account, so I will walk through what to do if you don’t have one. I will then show screenshots of my mom’s account (she teaches with me). I would show my account, but she has more uploaded in hers currently and it is a better example. Once you get to this page, click “sign in with a different account” at the bottom.

4 Creating a new account If you don’t already have an account, click “add account” and then “create account” Fill in your information in order to create a new account Once your new account has been created, type in the address bar: You’ll be taken to a page that says you have to sign in with google Apps for education Fill in this information, confirming that you are an educator It should then take you to the classroom application

5 Classroom App When you create your classes, it should look like this.
She has 6 classes created. You can create as many as you need. You can add another class by clicking the plus sign in the corner In order to access your class, just click on the box of whichever class you want.

6 You’ll have to add your classes for whatever sections you teach
You’ll have to add your classes for whatever sections you teach. She teaches science and religion, so I’ll click on one of the science sections to show you around This page will come up. You’ll see three sections: Stream, Students, and About These sections will help you navigate through Classroom. Stream is where all your assignments that you post will show up Currently, there is one assignment that has Been posted. You can see how many students have turned it in in real time. To assign something, click the red +

7 Creating a New Assignment
Type in the title of your assignment, when it’s due, and any other additional information. Here you can click which classes you want to assign it to, if it’s meant for more than this class. You can attach anything you want to add from Google drive, Youtube, etc. Then, click assign. Students will see this assignment on their Stream feed. This works the same way for an announcement or a question.

8 When the students turn in their assignment, their assignment will be in Google drive. Each student will need their own account name in order to access Google Drive. These were created by our administrator. You’ll see which students are done because they’ll upload their assignment from Google Drive to the assignment on Classroom.

9 This student is completed with her assignment.
The assignment was to use Google Slides (which is like a PowerPoint). She submitted her assignment and you can see that she’s under the “Done” section. In order to view her assignment, you just click on the Slides. This will open her presentation in another window. You can then grade it and give her points. This is where you can change the point value.

10 Students To invite your students to a class
or manage your students, click on the “Students” tab. Your class code is what you’ll give your students in order to invite them into the class page

11 About On this page, you can tell your students about yourself

12 Final Thoughts This app has been amazing for the teachers and the students. The kids get excited to use it because it feels like an online course. For the teachers, it’s nice because we are able to easily access our students’ work from anywhere with internet access. It’s very user friendly once you get the hang of it! As we currently use it, I would consider “classroom” to be somewhere between the Augmentation and Modification SAMR level. It allows students to use technology to organize, complete, and turn in their way in a different way than in the past. They’re able to access more because they are doing everything completely online and with the use of technology.
