3 Purpose The intent is to authorize service members time away from their assigned duties to assist with transition activities such as job and house hunting

4 Policy Per DOD Instruction , SECDEF authorizes commanding officers authority to grant PTDY and Excess Leave PTDY is to be used for bona fide job search / house hunting Excess leave option is not available for retirees

5 Eligibility Members involuntarily separated under honorable conditions
Retirees individuals (including fleet reserve and disability retirements) Members discharged for medical reasons Reservists Mobilized or Extended Reservists

6 Time Limits Members stationed in CONUS may receive up to a total of 10 or 20 days depending on: involuntarily separated (10 days). Authorized 30 days excess leave without 10 days PTDY retired (20 days) – excess leave option is not available for retirees. Members stationed OCONUS may receive up to 20 days (involuntary) or 30 days (retirement).

7 USE May be taken in increments
May not be combined with liberty weekend, special liberty, holidays, etc. Can be taken in conjunction with chargeable leave and terminal leave immediately upon completion of all separation processing.
