SCIENCE AND ICT HUMANITIES (History, Geography, RE) PE AND PSHE Chemical and Physical changes– the science of boiling, melting, freezing and burning! What do you think a reversible change is? Is evaporation a reversible change? How would you change steam into liquid? Can we investigate reversible and an irreversible changes? In what ways can a material change state? How does heat affect particles in solids? How can we plan a fair test and evaluate test results? ICT How can input data into Excel and use this to display results? How can we use the internet to research historical questions and use skills of embedding animation and sounds in to PowerPoint to communicate findings? What skills do we need for an invasion game? How can we play Hockey safely with others? What skills do we need to play hockey? How will we manage our skills and emotions when playing a game that can potentially be dangerous? (i.e. using a hockey stick.) We must remember our PE kits in school at all times and remember to keep to the school dress code! We are setting an example to the lower school. What are the main physical features of Greece? How have humans shaped Greece’s culture and landscapes? What remnants are there of the Ancient Greek civilisations still left? Who had the biggest influence on Greek culture and European culture as a result? What are the legacies of the Ancient Greek civilisation? Where are Athens and Sparta - are they still there? How have the changed? What was the route taken to the Battle of Marathon? Who were the Greek Gods and what was their influence on Greek society and culture? How could you help at home? Research Alexander the Great and/or the Persian Empire – use a safe Swiggle search to prevent yourselves from finding anything too gory! How could you help at home? Investigate evaporation! Does salt water evaporate faster or slower than non-salt water ? Why do you think this is? Make sure it’s a fair test! Can you make it rain inside using the science of evaporation and condensation? How? Take photos of a puddle or bowl of water evaporating over a few days. OR Take photos of condensation around the house. What’s the common theme? How could you help at home? Watch some Hockey videos (maybe the England Olympic gold medal match!) What skills were used? How do they manage potentially dangerous sports equipment? YEAR 5 THEME TERM 4: Ancient Greece CLASS BOOK: Greek Myths and Legends LITERACY MATHS How can we use history to create a recount of an event through the form of a letter home? Which are the best writing techniques to describe a historical setting? How do you use facts and opinions to discuss the events of history? Where are prominent locations in Greek history and how will they influence our writing? What writer skills are needed to write a traditional story/myth? What exciting facts can I share in a historical recount writing? How can we use drama to establish a unique viewpoint? Solve problems involving multiplication and division including using their knowledge of factors and multiples, squares and cubes. Solve problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and a combination of these, including understanding the meaning of the equals sign. Solve problems involving multiplication and division, including scaling by simple fractions and problems involving simple rates. CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT (Art, Music, Design technology) DT: Making clay pots by looking at Ancient Greek sculpture and pottery. Art: Decorating clay pots in the style of the ancient Greek artists – What frieze (still image depicting a scene) could we paint on the side? Music: Can we sing an Ancient Greek song and create accompanying rhythms? How could you help at home? Read some famous myths and legends Watch some horrible history clips about ancient Greece Write a letter to someone to describe your holidays – include your feelings How could you help at home? Keep using MATHLETICS and remember to send your certificates into school regularly. Practice some practical word problems by thinking about real life situations – shopping, parties, sharing with friends etc. How could you help at home? Have a look at Ancient Greek and Persian pottery. Study the ancient gods of Greece and look at their various designs through history.
