3 carrying capacity – the maximum population size that the resources in an area can support

4 endangered species – a species that is in danger of becoming extinct

7 urban growth – the movement from a rural (country) area to an urban (city) area

8 pollution – when the air, water, or soil is dirtied by chemicals and/or trash

9 strip mining – when people carve the land to get rocks that are near the surface

10 fertilizer – chemicals used to make plants grow more effectively

11 agriculture – farming; cultivating or growing plants for food or to meet other needs and wants
