2 BILL OF RIGHTS 1ST 10 AMENDMENTS

3 1st Amendment Freedom of speech, press, religion, assembly, and petition. 3

4 2nd Amendment The right to bear arms. 4

5 3rd Amendment No quartering of troops during times of peace. 5

6 4th Amendment No unreasonable search and seizures. Must have a warrant or probable cause. 6

7 5th Amendment Protection for Due Process of Law, no self incrimination, no double jeopardy, no punishment before being found guilty. Double Jeopardy: can’t be charged of the same crime twice. Example: OJ Simpson. 7

8 6th Amendment Rights for those accused of crimes while on trial.
Speedy and Public Trial Trial must be in location of crime 8

9 7th Amendment Common Law Suits; anything that amounts of $20.00 must have a trial by jury. 9

10 8th Amendment No cruel and unusual punishment , bail must fit the crime. 10

11 9th Amendment People of more rights than those listed in the Amendments and the Constitution. 11

12 10th Amendment Any right not given to the national government and that is not illegal belongs to the states. 12

13 CIVIL WAR AMENDMENTS 13TH, 14TH, and 15th 13

14 13th Amendment Slavery prohibited 14

15 14th Amendment Slaves become citizens
Equal protection for all, all rights for all citizens 15

16 15th Amendment Black males get the right to vote 16

17 16th Amendment Allows federal income tax 17

18 17th Amendment People are allowed directly elect senators. 18

19 18th Amendment No alcohol 19

20 19th Amendment Women get the right to vote 20

21 21st Amendment Repeals 18th, alcohol no longer illegal 21

22 22nd Amendment Limits Presidents to 2 terms in office 22

23 23rd Amendment People living in DC get the right to vote.

24 25th Amendment Establishes line of success for Presidency

25 26th Amendment Lowered the voting age to 18 25

26 Suffrage Amendments 15th, 19th, 23rd, and 26th 26
