2 Questions What were the causes of World War One?
Why did Canada join the war effort? What effect did Canada’s participation in the First World War have on Canadian society and its status as a nation?

3 Cause and Consequence No one event, person or idea alone causes any historical event Background causes combine and then there is usually a trigger cause that sets the event in motion When determining the causes of events you must consider:

Who were the people influencing the event? What were the social or economic conditions influencing the event? What were the ideas and beliefs influencing this event? What were the consequences of the event? What are the intended and unintended consequences of the event?

5 Causes Historians generally consider there to be 4 causes of the war plus one trigger or spark All of the causes have something to do with the major powers in the world who are all located in Europe Great Britain France Russia Germany Austria-Hungary

7 Causes In June 1914 Gavrilo Princips, a 17 year old Serbian assassinated Archduke Franz Ferdinand (the next Emperor of Austria-Hungary) August 4th Britain declares war on Germany There are many different events before the assassination and in between the assassination and the our involvement in the war-

War was an exciting adventure- British loyalty, Manliness and Militarism*(more on this later) The reality of the war is much different- horrific, expensive and changes the map of Europe and the world
