1 Composition Digital Imaging

2 The creation of a photograph is akin to the creation of a painting, drawing, or sculpture – the camera assumes the role of a pencil, a brush or a knife. Ansel Adams - Jeffrey Pine, 1940

3 In a world of automatic cameras, which focus and adjust the exposure for us, the biggest difference between a good photograph and a mediocre one is the composition. J. Alan

4 A composition is an arrangement of elements
A composition is an arrangement of elements. A photographic composition is the arrangement of visual elements. It is the product of a photographer's vision and their skill in seeing, identifying, arranging, and framing the finished image. This is a clearly distinct skill from those necessary to successfully operate a camera.

5 Essentially, it's very important to study a scene carefully before releasing the shutter.
J. Alan

6 Some things to consider:
Pictures can be composed vertically or horizontally. Before taking your picture, compose it both ways and see which works more successfully. Because cameras are designed to be held with our pictures composed horizontally, we often tend to compose that way without thinking. But you will often see that many dynamic pictures are composed vertically, especially pictures of people. Try both before deciding.

7 Some things to consider:
Make sure that only what you want to see in the picture is left in the frame. Get close or zoom in so that whatever doesn’t need to be there is out of the frame. Arrange the subjects in a pleasing manner within the frame. This is a matter of taste, but take the time to do so.

8 Some things to consider:
In order to highlight the subject, photographers use a law of optics to their advantage called “depth of field” The “depth of field” is the area of the photo that is in focus. When nothing is in focus except the main subject, there is a shallow depth of field. When everything is in focus, there is a great depth of field
