Technology Survey Highlights

2. The Taylor ISD Technology department strives to provide students and staff with the best technology within our means to promote continuous school improvement and student success.
Each school year we will conduct a technology survey to track our progress towards goals of the district. This survey will be used as part of a much broader technology plan.
The following slides are the major highlights of the current survey with a few slides comparing progress from last year.

3. Over 200 employees of Taylor ISD completed the 2013-2014 Technology Survey.

128 of the employees said they were classroom teachers. That would account for about 52% of the teachers in the district.

4. Of those that completed the survey, most had been employed with the school district for 10+ years.

5. Most participants marked that they were secondary teachers.

However, a close second were elementary teachers.

6. Satisfaction with technical support has improved since last year

When compared to the previous school year, 73% believed that technical support had improved. That is a 19% gain. Keep in mind staff and structure has changed.

When asked what the top hardware needs where, those surveyed responded in this order. Notice the need for updated computers remained the top need and more computers passed more reliable wireless access.

Example: 70% of teachers taking the survey said they use the projector more often than anything else on a daily basis.

The same question was asked about student use of hardware. Here are the top 5 responses from the last 2 years.
Example: 35% of teachers taking the survey said their students use the PC desktops more often than anything else on a daily basis.

13. There is a growing trend that teachers want Macbook Laptops to replace their old computers % expressed they would want to replace their old computers with Macbook laptops while 20 % said they did not need a replacement. (It’s quite likely these are the people that already have Macbooks)

Now on to INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY. 64% of those that responded to the survey said instructional technology has improved since last year. Keep in mind that the staff has not changed in those years.

16. Quantity and Quality of Instructional Technology training meets my needs

The survey listed over 25 programs we use in the district. Respondents listed these as the top 5 programs that either they and/or their students used on a daily basis.
For example, 67% of respondents said that Microsoft Word was the #1 program they used on a daily basis.

18. We currently use Outlook, though at least 66% of staff would be fine with changing to Gmail.

19. Only 2 out of 128 teachers expressed they prefer students use Gaggle instead of Google. Over 82% of employees would be OK with changing to Google Apps for Education for students.

Most surveyed prefer face-to-face training in 2013.

Most surveyed prefer face-to-face training this year. The choose of combination of face-to-face and online was added. About 28% of those surveyed would prefer that method of instruction.

Most surveyed prefer after school training. However, there seems to be an increasing trend for teachers to prefer having training during conference times.

23. Most surveyed marked hands on practice being their MOST important aspect of professional learning. Since they could choose more than one area, it’s safe to say that most like hands on practice relevant to their content area.
