2 We help people across the world lead healthier and happier lives
Founded: WBA: 2014 First Global, Pharmacy-led Health and Wellbeing Enterprise Employees: Global: ,000 Walgreens ,000 U.S. Healthcare Service Providers 78,000 13,200+ stores in 11 countries, Presence in 25 8100+ stores in the U.S., D.C, P.R, V.I 390 Distribution Centers in 20 countries 76% of US population is within 5 miles of a Walgreens In the U.S., each day we interact with 8 million people and last year dispensed approximately 1 billion prescriptions Purpose: We help people across the world lead healthier and happier lives In the U.S. most of you know our company as Walgreens, which was founded in It has grown from a single store to forming the global company of Walgreens Boots Alliance in Globally we have 385,000 employees and at Walgreens in the U.S. we have 235,000 employees, In just the U.S. we have over 78,000 healthcare providers, pharmacists, pharmacy techs, nurse practitioners and physicians. Globally we have over 13,200 stores in 11 countries, with a presence in 25 countries. We have over 8100 stores in the U.S., District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and we have 390 distribution centers in 20 countries. But despite being a global company, we are a local company with 76% of the U.S. population within 5 miles of a Walgreens. Just in the U.S. each day, in just our pharmacies, we interact with over 8 million people and last year we dispensed approximately 1 billion prescriptions. ©2018 Walgreen Co. All rights reserved.

3 WBA CSR goals work to achieve:
Our CSR goals are in accordance with the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development goals. These are the six we incorporate into our Environment pillar. ©2018 Walgreen Co. All rights reserved.

4 Scope of the Problem In the U.S., public health is affected by disruptions of physical, biological, and ecological systems. The health effects of these disruptions include injury, disease, premature death and threats to mental health, to name a few. At WBA we approach this challenge with environmental responsibility and mitigation strategies which lead to climate and ultimately health resiliency. ©2018 Walgreen Co. All rights reserved.

5 Environmental Responsibility defining and owning the current state
Energy Total carbon footprint in fiscal 2017 was 2.3 million metric tons, reduced compared to 2016 by 6.5% 86% of total CO2e energy is used to power stores and warehouses, 12% product delivery, 2% business travel. CO2e emissions by energy type: 94% of energy used is electricity, 5% Gas, 1% other Waste Increased in 2017 due to construction and remodeling primarily to improve environmental impact. Generated 626,000 metric tons of waste in 2017 50% was recycled, 48% to landfills, 2% incinerated Our businesses in Norway and Netherlands are zero waste to landfills Deforestation Important to WBA because we use significant amounts of wood, paper, palm oil, soy and beef in our businesses and supply chain Production of these items contributes to deforestation which has a major impact on climate change Sustainable palm oil sourcing can help to reduce deforestation impact WBA is a signatory to the Consumer Goods Forum commitment to achieve zero net deforestation by 2020 As healthcare providers at WBA, we see our Environmental Responsibility as defining and owning our current state of environmental and climate impact. 6 Mitigation addressing the challenge
Energy Lowered electricity consumption (lighting upgrades, replacement of heating and cooling equipment, and developing an energy conscious culture) Adopted Ultra low Global Warming Potential refrigerants, and installing new HVAC systems Installed photo-voltaic solar panels on 240 stores and distribution centers Installed over 400 charging stations for electric vehicles Transportation: 800 private owned trucks, participate in the U.S. E.P.A SmartWay Program with improved fuel efficiency by 3.2% Waste Participating in the Beyond 34 recycling program in Orlando Progress made on the Zero Waste to Landfill project in Moreno Valley, CA, set to expand to 4 more centers Diverted more than 1.6 metric tons of product to Feeding America. Reduces greenhouse gases Participate in Shred-it recycling process resulting in decreased oil consumption, kilowatts of energy, landfill space, water, and trees saved Deforestation WBA integrates standards for wood, pulp and paper based on forest certification standards such as the Forest Stewardship Council Boots UK is a member in the WWF Global & Forest Trade Network and the Round Table on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) Paper Use: During 2017 Walgreens redesigned our logo so that it will be able to print more labels on one sheet of paper. It is estimated to save over 1.7 million pounds of paper or over 6000 trees per year. Paper used in advertising and products is purchased from certified sources. Mitigation then, is the programs and strategies we utilize to address climate change. 7 Climate Resiliency cost-effective solutions, accomplishments, next steps
Energy Goal: Reduce our energy consumption and Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions on a comparable basis as defined by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) Boots UK reached it’s May Day commitment of 30% carbon footprint reduction by 2020, 3 years early achieving a 33% reduction in 2017 Walgreens is on track to achieve a 20% reduction goal by 2020 made in partnership with the U.S. Dept of Energy’s Better Buildings Challenge Waste Goal: Reduce the waste we create on a comparable basis and to contribute to the drive for increasingly circular economies through increased re-use and recycling 50% of waste was recycled and we Increased recycled waste by 15.3%, Decreased waste to landfill by 14.3%, and making plans for the zero waste to landfill implementation at retail sites. Walgreens safe medication disposal kiosks have positive climate impact by keeping medications out of landfills and waterways. Expanding to 1500 stores have collected over 155 tons. Goal is to collect 300 tons over the next 2 years. Deforestation Goal: Developing plans to help achieve zero net deforestation by 2020, collaborating with other organizations in a global initiative Boots UK received the maximum score of 9 on the WWF Palm Oil Buyers Scorecard for using 100% certified sustainable palm oil in its owned brand products Boots UK received the top score of 3 in the WWF 2017 Timber Buyers Scorecard Well along on the journey to 100 percent sustainable timber and timber products by 2020 Climate resiliency then, is the way we measure recovery in climate change. Energy Our Goal: Reduce our energy consumption and Scope 1 and Scope 2 (direct and indirect) emissions on a comparable basis as defined by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) Boots UK reached it’s May Day commitment of 30% carbon footprint reduction by 2020, 3 years early achieving a 33% reduction in 2017 Walgreens is on track to achieve a 20% reduction goal by 2020 made in partnership with the U.S. Dept of Energy’s Better Buildings Challenge Waste Goal: Reduce the waste we create on a comparable basis and to contribute to the drive for increasingly circular economies through increased re-use and recycling Walgreens safe medication disposal kiosks have positive climate impact by keeping medications out of landfills and waterways. 8 Health Resiliency Treating the Cause – Climate Change
Defining and owning our Environmental Responsibility Reducing our energy consumption Decreasing our waste and increasing recycling, decreasing landfill use Addressing the challenge with Mitigation strategies As healthcare providers we all know the importance of treating the cause and not just the symptoms. At Walgreens Boots Alliance at a Global, National, and community level we are working to treat the cause of the changes we are seeing on human health by defining and owning our environmental responsibility, addressing these challenges with mitigation strategies that will lead to climate resiliency and the resultant health resiliency.
