1 Validation in INSPIRE Webinar on a new Test Registry & Repository 26/05/2015 Robin S. Smith & Michael Lutz

2 Action 1.17 Interoperability Openness Reuse Collaboration
A Reusable INSPIRE Reference Platform Openness Reuse Collaboration … sharing reusable components for INSPIRE implementation and interoperability in cross-border/cross-sector contexts.

3 INSPIRE in a nutshell Directive 2007/2/EC provides a comprehensive framework for the interoperability of spatial data Inventory (monitoring of implementation) data & service sharing and discovery network services data interoperability INSPIRE data can be combined with other data to enable cross-sector & cross-border “location- aware” analyses The largest (spatial) data sharing and harmonization activity in Europe today Build community around the platform

4 Why/What needs validation in INSPIRE
“What Member States must implement” (abstract specification) Directive INSPIRE Directive 2007/2/EC Commission Regulation Implementing Rules legally binding not legally binding TGs for the Implementation of Download Services TGs – Data Specification on Addresses Technical Guidelines Validation “How Member States might implement it” (implementation specification) e.g. INSPIRE data, metadata and services INSPIRE-SOS Metadata catalogue Transformed data sets e.g.

5 Ensure consistency of infrastructure components
MIWP-5 Validation and conformity testing In the implementation phase there is a great need for validation tools (for metadata, services, data) Validation services are available from JRC and some Member States duplication of effort potentially inconsistent results Software vendors claim that their products are INSPIRE-compliant without having undergone a certification process

6 Approaches Develop commonly agreed validation rules (and tools) for data, metadata & network services ‘Legal’ Based on TG requirements  Abstract Test Suites (ATS) Organisational MIG to jointly agree on the tests included in the validator Technical Investigate feasibility of executable tests and/or tools or services ATS work reveals several ambiguities and missing requirements in MD+NS TGs Discussion on possible compliance certification

7 MIWP-5: validation & conformity testing
Sub-group kick-off in December 2014, led by Italy Initial work on ATSs for metadata and network services TGs Overview of existing tools and solutions for metadata, service and data validation* Temporary sub-group will focus on ATS Development of executable tests will be outsourced ( ARE3NA) * testing/wiki/Overview_about_existing_validation_toolssolutions

8 Work on MD+NS ATS  OGC Compliance Interoperability & Testing Evaluation (CITE) Sub-Committee

9 Next steps in ARE3NA Collaboration with MIWP-5 and Action 4.2.6
Completion of commonly agreed Abstract Test Suites Design and Implementation of an INSPIRE Testing Framework Design report Framework (central/reusable software & documentation) Executable test suites Explore GITB/testbed integration: Synergies and how to achieve compliance to GITB methodologies Draft metadata of INSPIRE’s test ‘assets’ (rules and tools) Report to document experience
