List of Characters: Jem Finch Dill Harris Atticus Finch Miss Maudie Atkinson Calpurnia Aunt Alexandra Tom Robinson Arthur “Boo” Radley Mayella Ewell As you read To Kill a Mockingbird, you will find that the events of the novel affect the lives of all of the characters, not just Scout. To give you an opportunity to explore the reactions of the characters, you will pretend to be one of the characters listed on your assignment sheet. For this assignment, you will write the personal diary of a single character throughout the book so far.

List of Characters: Jem Finch Dill Harris Atticus Finch Miss Maudie Atkinson Calpurnia Aunt Alexandra Tom Robinson Arthur “Boo” Radley Mayella Ewell In your diary, write about the major events of the book so far – from Chapter 1 all the way to right before the trial (Chapter 16). If your character was not present for all events in the text, you should provide an explanation for how your character may have heard about events. In addition to summarizing the events, you should also describe your character’s perspective on other characters, their feelings about what is happening, and their thoughts about what will or should happen.

You should write at least three 200 word entries. Try to spread them out over the course of the book so far. Scoring Guide: At least three ½ page journal entries present, words minimum per entry (15 points) Entries fully and accurately cover the events of Chapters 1-16 (10 points) Writer captures the inner thoughts and emotions of the character (10 points) Total: ____/35 points
