3 Cinderella Questions & Activities
What five vocab words do you not know? List the word and definition. What do you think “Shiver and quiver, my little tree, silver and gold throw down over me” means? How does the first sister make the shoe fit? How does the second sister make the shoe fit? What happens to the sisters at the end? What lesson can you take away from the story of Cinderella? Activities Compare and Contrast the Grimm’s Fairy Tale version of Cinderella with the Disney version using a T- Chart or Venn Diagram. Make sure to discuss the similarities and differences between the two. Extra Credit Opportunities Design Cinderella’s dress. Your design should be in color with an explanation as to why you designed the dress the way you did. Write an alternate ending. Change the ending of Cinderella to something else. (Example: Cinderella and zombies)

How do they plan to get Rapunzel down from the tower? What happens to the prince? How does the prince find Rapunzel? What lesson can you learn from Rapunzel’s story? Activities Discuss the importance of Rapunzel’s hair. Why do you think the Grimm brothers wrote a story where the main character’s most important quality is her hair? Compare and contrast the personality of Rapunzel in the Grimm version and the Disney version. Make sure to include similarities and differences. Extra Credit Opportunities: Using yarn or ribbon create Rapunzel’s braid. This is completely creative and up to you to design.

Why does no one come to wake Sleeping Beauty? What happens at the end? What lesson can you learn from Sleeping Beauty’s story? Draw a spindle.

6 Snow White Questions What five vocab words do you not know? List the word and definition. What does the queen ask the mirror? Why does the queen hate Snow White? What do the dwarves notice about their cottage? Think about their responses and what it says about them as a character. What does the queen do to Snow White? How does Snow White come back to life? What lesson can you learn from Snow White’s story?

7 Sleeping Beauty and Snow White Activities
Compare and contrast Maleficent in Sleeping Beauty to the Queen in Snow White. Snow White is Disney’s first fully animated film. Why do you think Disney chose to do this movie first? Discuss the Disney version of the films. Do you think they accurately portray the original stories? What role does beauty play in both stories. Why do you think beauty is so important to fairy tales in general? Extra Credit Opportunities: Watch the movie Maleficent and write a review. Do you like Maleficent or the original sleeping beauty story better. Create an extra dwarf. Find a characteristic of people (example, sleepy, grumpy, etc.) and create a character out of it.

9 The Enchanted Frog What five vocab words do you not know? List the word and definition. What did the youngest daughter ask for? What does the frog want? How does the daughter respond to the news? How does the frog win her over? Does this seem believable to you? What lesson can you learn from this story? Describe the similarities between the original Beauty and the Beast and the original Princess and the Frog.

10 The Enchanted Frog and Beauty and The Beast Activities
Describe the similarities between the original Beauty and the Beast and the original Princess and the Frog. Why do you think the Grimm brothers would write the same beginning to a story? How do the princesses personalities differ? Discuss the Disney version of the films. Do you think they accurately portray the original stories? Would you rather marry the frog or the lion? Explain your answer. Extra Credit Opportunities: Make a recommended reading list for Belle. You need to include at least five titles with an explanation for your choices. Draw the transformation of the frog to the prince. Your drawing should be neat and in color.

11 Essay Assignment Directions: Choose ONE of the following prompts and write a three paragraph response. Compare and contrast one of the original Grimm’s Fairy Tales with the Disney version. Be sure to include at least one similarity and one difference. Also discuss why you think Disney made the changes that they did. Choose two princesses and discuss how they are similar and different. What traits do they all have in common? How do they differ? Write an essay where you discuss the Disney view of Fairy Tales. Explain whether or not you think these stories are realistic and should be shown to children. Explain why or why not.

12 Tic-Tac-Toe Directions: Choose two of the following activities to complete. The assignments needs to be neat and presentable and in color if applicable. Make sure to include all parts of the assignment. Create a drawing of one of the Princesses using details from the text to support your drawing. You must cite you textual evidence with proper citations. Create a board game for one of the fairytales. This needs to include the materials needed to play the game, a rule book with detailed rules and instructions on how to play the game, and a one to two sentence explanation to why you created this game the way you did. ABC Challenge: Choose any Grimm’s fairytale that we read in class and rewrite the tale in ABC order: each new sentence must start with the next letter in the alphabet. (Example: A man walked up to the dragon. Before the man had time to take out his sword, the dragon spoke! “Cauldron is my name!” roared the dragon in a puff of fire.) Create a Story Book of one of the fairytales with drawings. This should look like a picture book and be in color. Design at least three of the princess’s castles in detail and color. Make sure to provide an explanation for your design. Make an interactive dictionary with at least 10 words and 10 drawings that explain the meaning of the word. Modern-Day-Makeover: Take one of the Grimm’s fairytales that we read in class and give it a modern- day-makeover. Pay attention to detail.
