Become familiar with Utah Futures Complete the Reality Check Assessment Know the high school graduation requirements Complete your four year plan

3 Your Goals Dream Career
Distribute the Your Goals handout. Explain the activity and have students complete the Goals chart.

4 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
English 4.0 Social Studies (Geography, World Studies, U.S. History, American Government) 3.5 Mathematics (Algebra 1, Geometry, plus one additional course) 3.0 Science (Earth Systems, Biology, plus one additional course) Fine Arts (Art, Drama, Dance, Music) 1.5 Physical Education (.5 credit must be Fitness for Life) Career and Technical Education (Business, Marketing, Family & Consumer Science, Technology, Trade & Industry) 1.0 Digital Studies 0.5 Health Financial Literacy Elective Credits 8 Total Credits 27 Go over the requirements for graduation. Explain the citizenship graduation requirement. Students must have a cumulative citizenship grade of or higher in grades 9-12

Follow directions on the curriculum handout to complete the 9th grade plan. Freshman Year of High School (9th) Eng 9 Geography Math Science P. E. 9

Open an Internet browser Type in the address for Utah Futures Roll the mouse over Assessments Click Reality Check Under Option #1 Click on Get Started

8 Click on the dots that best match how you would like to live as an adult.

9 Your results should look like this..

10 Discussion Questions Are your “Matching Occupations” similar to the career you listed on your goal sheet? What type of education and/or training is needed for your chosen occupation? How strong is the outlook for this career in the future? (How many stars does it have?) You can have students divide into groups and discuss these questions

11 Conclusion “He who fails to plan, plans to fail”
