By: Armani Young, 2/28/18, 5th hour The Goat: The Life of Michael Jordan

MJ Origins Michael Jeffery Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York to Deloris Peoples. Michael is the 4th out of 5 children and moved to Wilmington North Carolina.

High School Athlete Jordan attended Emsley A. Laney High School in Wilmington. This is where Jordan begin his path of highlight by playing football, baseball, and basketball in high school. During his sophomore year, Jordan tried out for the Varsity Basketball Team and was “to short to play at his level.” But Jordan wouldn’t give up, he joined Junior Varsity and gained acceptance from Colleges: Duke, North Carolina, South Carolina, Syracuse, and Virginia.

The Next Level Out of all the college choices, Jordan chose The University of North Carolina. Jordan would join the team during his freshman year. He would play until his Junior season. Jordan made a career defining choice when he decided to leave The University of North Carolina before his senior year. He went to the NBA Draft in But, during his collegian level gameplay he and the UNC team made the accomplishment of gaining an NCAA Championship in Also, Jordan would return to UNC in 1986 to complete his degree.

The Pro Journey Begins During his rookie season, Jordan joined the Chicago Bulls scoring pts per game and had 51.5% shooting percentage, he quickly be came beloved by the fans and made the cover of Sports Illustrated in the section: “ A Star is Born.” Now Jordan had a break out season winning the 1984 Rookie of the Year. Jordan also got selected as an all-star but was criticized of if he should be there. So his All-Star teammates, including wouldn’t pass him the ball.

the NBA Michael’s 2nd season was cut short. This caused him to miss almost the whole season. The Bull’s would somehow still make the playoffs during Jordan’s career return. Unfortunately, not only did the Celtics beat the Bulls 2 years straight in the playoff series, Jordan was beaten by another legend, Ervin “Magic” Johnson. But Jordan helped the bulls gain 6 championships, 10 all-star appearances, and won 2 dunk contests, just to name a few accomplishments. Jordan would join the Washington Wizards from and would ofifcially retire from the NBA in This is his iconic dunk that is on the most famous dunks to this day.

MY Opinion on MJ I believe MJ is one of the greatest inspirations ever. From being denied a spot on the High School Varsity Basketball Team, to not being accepted by teammates, and to being criticized for playing baseball. Jordan has taken challenges head on and has just ignored what people say about him. But he turned it around by winning championships, making All-Star appearances, and getting his jerseys in the rafters. He is a great success story that can be told by many in different ways..
