Harness Your 2D Expertise To Power 3D Design Design New And Innovative Products Focus On Product Design, Not Design Tools Be First To Exploit Innovative Design Tools SolidWorks has provided more tools than CAD system to help new 2D users become productive in 3D. We understand that designers that use 2D have certain skill sets, workflow, and certainly data that must be leveraged when moving to 3D. At the same time we understand that a designers final product is typically a 2D drawing that must adhere to specifications and standards that have been established. Over the years 2D users have become productive designing in 3D with SolidWorks by leveraging many of these tools: The DWGeditor, native editing of DWG and DXF files in an interface familiar to AutoCAD users. eDrawings, a free native viewer for DWG and DXF files. DWG ad DXF import and 2D to 3D conversion tools to leverage the 2D data and design intent to quickly build a new 3D model. A 2D Emulator with common commands to the command line interface in AutoCAD to shorten the learning curve. Block capabilities to allow users to layout new designs in 2D to perform proof of concept before making any components in 3D. This is a familiar workflow for any 2D user. A dedicated “Moving from AutoCAD” help file that maps terminology, functionality and introduces 2D user to the SolidWorks interface. An extensive set of drawing capabilities for dimensions, annotations, view creation that allows SolidWorks users to automate the creation of production 2D drawings from 3D designs. A DrawCompare functionality that allows users to identify any differences between two 2D drawings. The SolidWorks Design Checker which helps to identify any items in a 2D drawing that does not adhere to a company standard. SolidWorks 2007 builds on this rich set of tools to make 2D users product designing in 3D with the addition of: New tools in blocks to allow better mechanism simulation in 2D sketches The DWGseries includes PDF export for DWG and DXF files a well as expanded support for AutoCAD data. New Drawing capabilities streamline the process of creating production level 2D drawings from parts and assemblies The SolidWorks Design Checker has been enhanced to make the definition of company standards easier and to now automatically correct any non-compliance in a drawing. Blocks for Sketching Traction Belts Relation Path SolidWorks 2006 introduced a new Block capability in the sketcher. This functionality allows users to group sketch entities together in blocks. Several blocks can exist in a sketch and be used to test the fit and function of a mechanism design all in 2D. SolidWorks can then automatically generate as assembly with new parts for each block to automate finishing the design in 3D. In SolidWorks 2007 this capability has been extended to enhance a users ability the conceptualize moving parts in 2D blocks. A new Traction sketch relation can be applied between entities in different blocks. A Traction relation will make the blocks tangent so that they appear to roll along each other when the blocks are dragged or rotated. A new Belt sketch entity creates tangent lines and arcs between circular sketch blocks. Users engage the belt to rotate each circle at a ratio consistent with its diameters A Relation Path allows a coincident or traction relation to be applied to a chain of entities. This enables CAM motion in a sketch. DEMO – Sketch Blocks

DWGseries DWGeditor Save As PDF 3 for 1 Licenses for All Customers DWGgateway Read/Write Any Version of DWG DWGviewer DWG Layer Support in Drawings Support for AutoCAD Solids SolidWorks continues to do more than any other company to help customers who have a need to work with and maintain DWG files. In SolidWorks 2005 we released the DWGeditor for users familiar with AutoCAD to edit existing DWG files in their native format. This was a huge success. In SolidWorks 2007 we are adding the ability to save r existing DWG files in PDF format allow you to extend your design data beyond engineering.. Also each and every seat of SolidWorks now comes with 3 standalone version of the DWGeditor for 2D users at your company. There have been over 500K downloads of the DWGgateway by AutoCAD users. The DWGgateway allows any ACAD user to open and save any version of a DWG file from 2.0 to ACAD 2006 regardless of what version they currently use. This greatly increases an ACAD users ability to share files and work with customers without worrying about version compatibility. The DWGgateway now allows AUTOCAD users to save their DWG files in PDF format to share with non-AUTOCAD users. eDrawings is the preferred tool for viewing DWG files with over 1.5 million downloads in 2005 alone. eDrawings can now turn on and off layers in DWG files as well as view the 3D solid data that can be created by AutoCAD.

Drawings Blocks – Snapping Balloons View Palette Predefined Section Views Note Alignment Broken Views Hole Tables Leaders SolidWorks Utilities - Format Painter SolidWorks Utilities – Find/Replace At SolidWorks we understand that in the end of the day you need to get production drawings out the door. Each and every release we continue to work to provide additional detailing tools as well as helping to automate drawing creation from 3D designs. SolidWorks 2007 is no different. Users can use the same blocks in both drawings and sketches as they now share a common format. This means in drawing a full range of dimension and relationships can be applied to locate blocks. Now users have better behavior and control over location when reusing block geometry in drawings. Users now have the ability to display any component custom property in a balloon. This provides better control of how components are called out or identified in 2D drawings. A new View Palette lets users quickly layout drawing views by dragging and dropping predefined views, annotation views and even section views defined in a part or assembly. Now users can define multiple horizontal and vertical breaks in the same drawing view. Particularly useful for layout of elongated parts in 2D A single hole table can be created in SolidWorks 2007 from multiple views as well as have hole tables recognize far side holes and include tolerances in tables. Users can now create dimensions with multiple leaders from radii, diameters, and chamfers. Multiple jogs can also be created for annotations from the exiting leader. SolidWorks Utilities can now make users more productive when detailing in 2D with the Find/Replace annotations feature - automates the task of manually finding and editing many notes. In addition, a Format Painter utility has been added that will copy the visual properties of a selected annotation to another annotation in the same, or in another document. DEMO Drawings

SolidWorks Design Checker Learn from an Existing Drawing Auto Correction of Checks Results in the Task Pane Spell Check Check for Nonstandard Hole Sizes Automation with SolidWorks Task Scheduler SolidWorks is always looking for way to help make users more productive. WE understand that each company has internal requirements that must be met before designs are released. Typically these are checked for by a senior engineer on a plotted 2D drawing with a red pen. This process while effective are very manual and time consuming. Wouldn't in be great if each user could check their own designs for accuracy and completeness before submitting to release. The SolidWorks Design Checker lets each designer do just that. With over 30 checks focused on the accuracy and completeness of Drawings users will know that company standards have been adhered to. Problems are identified graphically and reports can be generated with the check results. In SolidWorks 2007 we implemented the most 2 common requests for the design checker, a way to build the drawing standards from existing document ad automatically correcting any errors in a checked document. There have been additional checks added and now you may check an entire project by running the Design Checker in the Task Scheduler Demo Design Checker

Harness Your 2D Expertise To Power 3D Design Design New And Innovative Products Focus On Product Design, Not Design Tools Be First To Exploit Innovative Design Tools Design tools are very crucial to the idea iteration and innovation process. SolidWorks provides many tools to allow designers to ask what if, quickly make iterations, and create products never before imagined. Using SolidWorks has become a competitive advantage to many companies. Designs are becoming more complex in both shape an in operation and a design tool must be up to these demands. Consumers are demanding products of a very high quality while companies are begin forces to shorten design cycle times to survive. Businesses are often reinventing them selves an using new and innovative products to differentiate themselves from their competition. SolidWorks has provided many capabilities to allow companies to keep pace like: SolidWorks provides unmatched performance large assemblies nd large assembly drawings allowing designers to push the their designs. SolidWorks users leverage configurations to quickly generate variations on a new design. Configurations make managing different variations of a design easy while promoting the propagation of changes throughout a design. Since the fist release of SolidWorks customers have benefited from commands handling difficult cases due to the most robust feature-based modeling in the industry. SolidWorks provides designers an extensive set of surfacing tools to create the most inspired shapes. SolidWorks Routing has integrated pipe and harness design early in the process allowing for faster project completion Physical Dynamics and Physical Simulation allows users to verify how many different assembly mechanisms will work before choosing the best one. COSMOSWorks Designer enables the designer to test product integrity of a design early in the development process building quality in from day one. SolidWorks 2007 extends a designers ability to design new and innovative products with: New gear mates and belt interaction to test more complex assembly motion. More sophisticated curve creation and surfacing tools, like boundary and freeform, to create the most complex shapes. Gains in performance when working with Toolbox, PDMWorks, and COSMOS. Surfacing Freeform Boundary Fill Surface Curvature Continuity Open Loops Curve Creation Spline Controls 3D Sketch Constraints RealView SolidWorks 2007 has made significant enhancements in surfacing tools required for the complex shapes in product design. Product design requires smooth transitions between product faces, this is known and curvature continuity or C2. C2 is everywhere in SolidWorks 2007. There is a new C2 Freeform surface that will let a user select a surface or model face and push and pull on it dynamically. This allows users to quickly and easily define complex surface features. The new Boundary surface lets users create 2 direction surface with multiple control cross-sections that will maintain C2 in all directions to existing model faces. The Fill surface or n-sided patch now has a curvature continuous boundary condition and support for surface creation between open sets of curves an edges. Curves are the building blocks of great surfaces and therefore product designs. 2D and 3D sketch splines have been enhanced with new spline handle manipulation controls. The new controls separate vector angle from tangent and curvature weighing, greatly improving the user’s ability to predictably and accurately adjust the weighting and angle of spline handles. Users can also apply asymmetrical control over the shape of a spline at its points better simulating a Bezier curve and providing better control with fewer points. In 3D sketch power trim has been added and new relations Equal, Tangent to face, Curvature Continuous to face allowing for more flexibility when sketching in 3D Realview has a more realistic look due to lighting support and gives users more control over display and colors. Sheet Metal Curved Flange Lofted Bend Lines Flatten Sketches Corner Trim From machine design to electronics many SolidWorks users depend on sheet metal tools to achieve their designs in SolidWorks 2007 these tool have been enhanced for more advanced design. The user will now be able to create an edge flange on any combination of non-linear tangent edges. The user will also be able to place edge flanges on parts where it was previously blocked; such as the linear edges of lofted or cylindrical parts.  Sheet metal lofted bends will now be flattened with bend lines showing in the bend regions. The profiles that define the lofted bend part must have the same number of elements (lines and curves) which lead to well-defined bend regions. Sketches created on planar faces of any sheet metal part will be transformed when the part is flattened. These sketches can also be represented as a different color in the flat pattern drawing. Dimension also go to their flatten state. Corner trims in the flat pattern have been greatly improved to provide location control and trim additional corners  Demo Edge Flange, Lofted Bends, flatten sketch

Harness Your 2D Expertise To Power 3D Design Design New And Innovative Products Focus On Product Design, Not Design Tools Be First To Exploit Innovative Design Tools Most designers understand how powerful the capabilities of 3D CAD can be. These systems capture a great amount of design intent in parts, assembles, and drawings that does not exist in 2D. This intent helps users manage design changes and propagate changes through a design database. The main benefit of 3D CAD making sure that components will fit together correctly the first time. Prior to SolidWorks to recognize these benefits 3D CAD users were forced to spend significant time mastering the system. SolidWorks has always been focused on letting users spend their energy on innovative designs and not learning complex CAD features. SolidWorks has done much in the past to help users focus on design not the design software: SolidWorks was the first Windows native solid modeler taking advantage of the familiar user interface, and capabilities like Drag and drop, and cut and paste. The SolidWorks patented FeatureManger made it easy for users to manage design history and build design intent into a file. SolidWorks Heads-up User Interactions, a complete set of visual display and mouse-driven control capabilities that reduce design steps, minimize the need for dialog boxes, and lessen visual clutter. SolidWorks has delivered integrated and easy to use rendering, animation, data management and design validation to allow users to gain more down stream value out of their designs. SolidWorks has saved users time by provides libraries of standard comments as well as access to vendor supplied 3D files in 3D ContentCentral. SolidWorks Smart Components save users time by adding required mounting features and hardware automatically when inserting components in a design. SolidWorks 2007 makes even more progress in getting the design software out of the way of the designer with: SWIFT™ technology will allow even new user to design like an expert without having to master the system. COSMOSWorks Designer is better integrated with SolidWorks and even easier to use so many more can benefit from design validation. SolidWorks users will be able to focus on their designs by leveraging the largest library of predefined content. A new search capability that will find the data the matter the first time. COSMOSWorks Designer Weldment Analysis Mass Elements Account for Mass of Purchased Parts Remote Mass SolidWorks changed they way that welded frames were designed with SolidWorks 2004 releasing an intuitive sketch based way to created frames. Now SolidWorks is the only system that can design and analyze welded frames Weldments created in SolidWorks can now be analyzed using more efficient beam elements. COSMOSWorks will automatically define the structural members as beam elements, derive beam cross section from solid geometry, detect the joint conditions, and read loads/supports applied to the weldments and transfer them automatically to beams. Users are typically not interested in the stress results of purchased parts, instead users want to consider the effect of this part on the rest of the assembly. Now, they can represent these purchased parts as equivalent mass. COSMOSWorks creates mass elements automatically based on the mass properties and moment of inertial information from SolidWorks model.  COSMOSWorks now allows users to represent certain purchased parts such as motors and actuators as remote mass. User don’t need to model these parts in SolidWorks, but instead they can consider the effect of these parts on rest of the assembly by specifying the mass and moments of inertia. This connector provides ability to input local stiffness as well as free rotations.  Existing spring connector has been enhanced to simulate tension only, and compression only springs. In addition, springs can now be defined between cylindrical faces or 2 points or vertices.  The bolt connector is now easier to use now that users are no longer requreid to split the faces around the bolts Demo COSMOS

31 COSMOSWorks Advance Professional
Nonlinear Analysis Restart Follower Loads Friction Pin Connectors COSMOS Non linear analysis has some very important enhancements for 2007 release. Restart: This is the most requested feature for NL analysis. The restart option allows users to stop the solver for NL analysis any time. Then they can restart from the last solved step. This is particularly important when you need to change the solver options, BC’s during the analysis. Since NL analysis takes some time to complete this options allows users to stop the analysis when they need their computer without loosing any solve time. Follower Loads: This option allows the software to update the direction of the loading with the change in geometry. This is particularly important for large displacement analysis like hose clip shown here or pressure vessels where in pressure is always perpendicular to the surface. Friction: Friction is now supported for non linear contact analysis. Connectors: In COSMOSWorks 2007 pin connector is supported for NL analysis. DEMO COSMOS

32 COSMOSFloWorks 2007 Thin Wall Technology Improved Usability
Automatic Capture and Resolution of Thin Geometry Significant Reduction in No. of Computational Cells Improved Usability Property Manager Input COSMOSFloWorks Animator 64-bit Support Solve Very Large Models (4-6 million cells) COSMOSFloWorks 2007 has a lot of new features that will help product designers design and develop better products. Here are the important features in CFW For a complete list of new items we encourage you to look into the What’s new section of the Online Help. Thin Wall Technology: This technology is unique to COSMOSFloWorks. No other CFD product has this capability. CFW now automatically detects thin walled segments in your model and captures the thin walls within one cell. This eliminates the need to apply mesh control to capture thin geometry. This technology will accurately capture the boundary layer near the walls. Industries like turbo machinery and electronic cooling will benefit from this technology. In turbo machinery the blade segments are usually thin and requires mesh controls to capture the geometry. In electronic cooling heat sinks with thin fins can be accurately represented with this technology without increasing the cell count. Improved Usability: In CFW 2007 all the dialog boxes for inputs are in PM style. This creates the same look and feel as SolidWorks interface. Animator feature in CFW helps users to create high quality animations involving flow analysis results. Users can now create AVI’s for flow trajectory animation and particle tracking animation with a single click. 64 bit support: The x64 version of CFW 2007 is capable of solving very large problems (up to 8 million cells). Currently we are limited to 1 million cells in x32 version of CFW. This new version will also allow users to access more memory for meshing and solving. Users can use up to 8 GB of memory for solving. DEMO COSMOS

33 COSMOSFloWorks 2007 Heat Transfer Orthotropic Material
Different Thermal Conductivities in X, Y and Z Directions Accurate Simulation of PCB Peltier Thermoelectric Cooler Thermostat Significant enhancements are done in 2007 release for Electronics cooling applications involving heat transfer. Orthotropic material: CFW 2007 now supports orthotropic materials. The CFW engineering database allows users to create a solid and input different thermal conductivity values in X, Y and Z direction. PCB materials are usually orthotropic and it is important to capture the heat transfer accurately and this feature will allow users to realistically solve problems involving such materials. Peltier Thermo Electric Cooler (TEC): Simulation of TEC’s is now possible with CFW TEC’s are widely used in electronic industry and also other industries like HVAC, Climate control and Medical. This device will conduct heat from cold side to hot side when you apply a current. On reversing the current the direction of heat conduction will change. In a heat sink assembly this device is usually sandwiched between the main chip and heat sink. TEC is an component in electronics and also other industries like HVAC and Medical. Thermostat: A thermostat is a device which will control the heat source based on the temperature at a particular location. The thermostat location is governed by a goal like max temperature on the chip or temperature at a location. DEMO COSMOS

34 COSMOSFloWorks 2007 Cavitation Model Relative Humidity Calculation
Predict Cavitation Regions Helps with Design of Pumps and Valves Relative Humidity Calculation Climate Control Moisture Distribution Cavitation Model: Cavitation is a very important phenomena which governs the design of piping, Valve systems etc. Cavitation occurs when the pressure in a system drops below the vapor pressure of the liquid. It leads to bubble formation and also very high acceleration of the bubbles. This action erodes material and leads to failure. Cavitation is a very important problems in valve, piping and turbine industry. CFW can now predict areas in the model where cavitation will occur. Also accurate results of pressure and density will be obtained. This will help designers develop systems where cavitation can be avoided. Relative Humidity: CFW can calculates the relative humidity in every location of your model. This calculation is very useful for climate control applications like clean room process, sauna etc… Users can input the value of relative humidity (as a %) to every opening in the model.
