5 28/11/2018 NHSBSA Hints and tips (c) Devon LPC January 2017

6 How prescriptions are processed?
28/11/2018 How prescriptions are processed? Regardless of whether the prescription is an EPS Release 2 message or a paper FP10, the rules set out in the NHS England and Wales Drug Tariff are followed. The rules for EPS are the same as for FP10. (c) Devon LPC January 2017

7 28/11/2018 Referred Backs… EPS Release 2 prescriptions are referred back to the contractor for ‘missing information’ far less than paper FP10s The most common reason is no price – find out from your system supplier how you can identify products in dm+d with no price so that you can endorse an IP with price, pack size and supplier When a generic product is prescribed and insufficient information about the dispensed product is supplied may lead to a referred back. In order to be reimbursed correctly the NHSBSA need to know the brand, manufacturer or wholesaler. Please return information about the actual dispensed product supplied. This will allow them to identify the supplier. (c) Devon LPC January 2017

11 EPS Prescription Tracker
28/11/2018 EPS Prescription Tracker Ensure you can access the Prescription Tracker. Provides a detailed prescription event history Some pharmacy systems have the Internet blocked but access is obtained through intranet - check with your IT helpdesk Suggested recommendation – save tracker link to desktop. Add to Favourites Hands up who is using the Tracker? If you don’t know what the prescription tracker is or what it looks like we are going to look at a screen shot in a minute and there is a hand out in your pack but it basically lets you look into the Spine to see a detailed history of the prescription for every step of the process using the prescription ID or a patients NHS number. As it says on the slide – some systems do or can block access but if you just call the systems IT helpdesk they can help as they are fully aware of what the tracker is and does. Or you can use the link provided on the screen For a lot of people who use the tracker it often becomes their best friend and go to place if they need to locate a prescription or find out its history and it can save users a lot of time and effort so please make the most of it when you can. 23 REFERENCE SLIDE Endorsements in EPS R-2
28/11/2018 Do not handwrite endorsements on an EPS Token. These will not be used for pricing. Find out from your supplier how to apply each endorsement electronically in EPS. REFERENCE SLIDE Endorsements in EPS R-2 REFERENCE SLIDE All endorsements must be made electronically All prescriber endorsements (SLS, ACBS, AF and CC) must be in the ‘prescriber endorsement field’ of the prescription message All dispenser endorsements must be in the ‘dispenser endorsement field’ of the electronic claim message must always be user initiated and never automatic it may be appropriate for a dispensing system to prompt the user if a price endorsement or supplier is required Some EPS endorsements are just a code selected from a drop down menu e.g. BB, SP, ED, MF Others are a code plus an associated additional field e.g. IP, XP, NCSO (c) Devon LPC January 2017

24 REFERENCE SLIDE Endorsements with additional information
28/11/2018 IP - Invoice Price Allows you to endorse the price, pack size, supplier/brand. In addition for Non Part VIIIB ‘specials and imports’ also the specials/importers licence number and batch number [IP] [£486.00, 100ml, Specials Ltd, ML12345, BN ] Remember It must be the price per pack size and not the price for the total quantity dispensed It must be the pack size used for dispensing – the system must not default to the ‘special order pack size of 1’ e.g. 1ml, 1gram, 1 tablet For specials and imports it must be the invoice price per pack size from which the product was supplied less discount/rebates January 2017 (c) Devon LPC January 2017

25 REFERENCE SLIDE Endorsements that only need a code
BB - Broken Bulk When it is applicable and you need to claim broken bulk make sure you add the BB endorsement [BB] We also need the pack size so remember to return the actual pack you dispensed as that is where we get the pack size SP – Unlicensed medicine When it is applicable and you need to claim an additional fee for an unlicensed medicine manufactured under a MHRA special license or sourced under a MHRA importers licence [SP]

26 Assorted Flavours For food replacement / food supplement products where the prescriber does not wish to specify the flavour(s) they will prescribe a ‘flavour not specified’ product: Ensure Plus milkshake style liquid (Flavour Not Specified) Fortisip Bottle (Flavour Not Specified) The prescriber should add the ACBS prescriber endorsement and can also add an AF (assorted flavours) prescriber endorsement - these are specific prescriber endorsement codes If the prescriber has put AF, assorted flavours or multiple flavours in the dosage instructions or instructions to dispenser then these are not acceptable endorsements – prescriber endorsements must be in the prescriber endorsement field to be identified and extracted for reimbursement.
