Click on the bookmarks to zoom in or out to different scales Select the measuring tool to measure distances A how to guide for using the app. Will work beautifully on PCs or tablets. Will be difficult on phones. Select the coordinate tool and click on your home. A positive latitude value is North of the Equator A positive longitude value is East of the Prime Meridian. Quote coordinates to 2 decimal points Web app - works on all devices

2 Assessment: Write a set of paragraphs to describe the location of your home at a range of scales from local to global. Local scale – What is your home post code? Where is your home relative to 3 local places? E.g. WGSG is 0.27km NW of WGSB and 0.75km SW of Kent college. (Straight line distances only using the GeoWilmington map). District/London Borough scale–In which part of your district/London Borough do you live e.g. N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW, Central? How far from the district/borough border are you? County scale - In which part of your county do you live e.g. . N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW, Central? How far from the district/London Borough border are you? Students use the web app. (on GeoWilmngton)

NW, SW, NE, SW UK? Is it inland or by the sea/ocean? Which home nation is it in? Continental scale – In which part of Europe is the UK? E.g. NW, SW, NE, SW Europe? Is it inland or by the sea/ocean? Which ocean/seas surround the UK? Global scale - Give the global latitude and longitude coordinates for your home – to 2 decimal points e.g. WGSG is ⁰ North of the Equator and 0.19⁰ East of the Prime Meridian.

Step 1. Measure the straight line distance in km or miles from a reference point to your home e.g. 1.7 km. Step 2. Place an imaginary compass rose on your reference point. 1.7 km Step 3. Which direction is it from the reference point to your home e.g. W, SW, E etc. Step 4. Write your sentence: “My home is located 1.7 km to the South of my primary school”
