8. Responding to Sarcasm
Sometimes, it can be confusing to figure out exactly how to respond when someone uses sarcasm. Try these responses:
Fight sarcasm with sarcasm- use sarcasm back! Pick up on their joke and continue it!
Say “Right?” or another affirming statement. This shows that you understood their sarcasm. Then, you can transition back to literal speaking.

With a partner, practice sarcasm by saying these phrases sincerely and then sarcastically. Your partner should identify which one was sarcasm. Then, switch.
“That violin concert was really amazing, wasn’t it?”
“I just love your outfit today. Is that a new shirt?”
“I can’t wait for my workout today at the gym!”
“I love my new diet plan.”
