1 KS2 Transition Welcome to Year 3

Juniper Class- Mrs Etherington Maple Class- Mrs Davis Year 3 classes are located on the riverbank on the edge of the KS2 playground Children will use the KS2 toilets near to their rooms Children will now use the large KS2 playground at break and lunch

4 Reading In Year 3 it is expected that children read a minimum of 5 times a week Reading needs to be recorded in their reading journal- at the start of the year you may listen to your child and make comments but this may change as they develop their ability. If able, the children can write in themselves. Please sign once a week. Reading challenge treat and prize

5 Independence Children should come in to the classroom unaccompanied.
Cloakrooms are in the classroom so please only send your child with what they need and preferably no big bags. Children should change their own reading book whenever they need to- they will be reminded for the first term.

6 Expectations By the end of Year 4 pupils are expected to know all their tables up to 12 x 12 Handwriting is to be joined, neat and correctly punctuated. Dates and LQ’s are to be written by the children and underlined. Spellings- we will be starting a new spelling program as a whole school in September. Spellings will be sent home to practise.

7 Home learning Home learning is given out every term
It consists of a choice of different tasks as well as a maths activity on the MyMaths website All children are expected to complete home learning There is a homework club on Friday lunchtimes Home learning is shared in the class and the children receive peer and teacher feedback

8 Outdoor learning This will take place on a rotation with PE. We will do OL once a week for a short term then PE for a short term. Year 3 will do OL in September. We will build on the learning from the infants Children will need all weather outdoor clothing and boots- we have limited spares especially of boots

9 Trumpets All Year 3’s will receive trumpet tuition from Berkshire Maestros from February 2019 until July 2019 There is the option to pay a deposit to enable your child to take the trumpet home to practise if you wish Children will perform in a mini concert in the school hall at the end of the tuition

10 Helping your child at home
Listen to your child read and ask them questions Practise everyday Maths with them as well as helping them to practise written methods Talk to them about their school day Check bags for letters Help them to remember PE kits and reading records
