1. What is one thing you know about IET? 2. List one thing you are already doing in your classroom to implement work readiness and/or career awareness. 20minutes 3 corners around the room and they will rotate to answer the questions. Have 2 flip charts for each question Sometimes its hard to see beyond the big picture and look deeper at the details.

3 5 minutes Sometimes we only see the one deer…HSE when in reality we need to see both. We know that one will always take priority over the other

5 What Is IET? “…a service approach that provides adult education and literacy activities concurrently and contextually with workforce preparation activities and workforce training for a specific occupation or occupational cluster for the purpose of educational and career advancement” (Final WIOA regulations at 34 CFR §463.35).

Reading: understanding materials written in sentences or paragraphs. Document Use: using and understanding labels, graphs, signs and other materials. Numeracy: using and understanding numbers. Writing: writing text or typing on a computer. Oral Communication: using speech to share thoughts and information. Working with Others: interacting with others to complete tasks. Thinking: reviewing information to make decisions. Computer Use: using computers and other technical tools. Continuous Learning: participating in an ongoing process of gaining skills and knowledge.

MP2 – Reason abstractly and quantitatively. MP 3 – Construct viable arguments/critique reasoning of others. MP4 – Model with mathematics. MP5 – Use tools appropriately and strategically. Be Prepared Create lessons, activities, and homework that integrate employment skills and career pathways or clusters. Be Structured Have a Plan 6 Step Lesson Plan Warm-ups and Introductions Try incorporating employment/soft skills into your warm-ups and introductions Be Flexible Always be ready to meet the needs of the students

WARM – UP INTRODUCTION PRESENTATION PRACTICE EVALUATION APPLICATION By integrating some sort of lesson plan concept you can easily integrate employment and training skills into a piece of this outline.

17 In what ways do you or can you integrate workplace skills into your warm-ups in your classroom?
Current events, globe game. Or warm up for writing of pros and cons. In my hand I have a job that pays $100,000. How many of you would like this job. What if I told you you would have to move out of state? What if I told you it was seasonal and you only worked about 4 months out of the year? But you would have to work 6-7 days a week during that time with no vacation time. Would you like it?
