1 Macbeth Revision of Act 2 Date:
Objectives Revise Act 2 before moving on to Act 3 Make sure everyone is following the story. Mark quotes (needed for 60% of any answer you give in PQE) All of this should be on a sheet which can be used for revision purposes later so don’t write on the sheet. Warm-up: Raise your hand and share a thought about Act 2 of Macbeth. What do you think about it?

Short questions – one to two line answers. (For summary and recall of key moments). Answer as a group. Raise hands, share answers with class, discuss and write down an answer. Why can’t Banquo sleep? What does this tell us about him? (S1) What does Macbeth see after his talk with Banquo and where is Macbeth going? (S1) What did Lady Macbeth do to Duncan’s guards? (S2) Describe Macbeth when he returns to his wife. Is there anything strange about him? (S2) What does Lady Macbeth do with the daggers Macbeth is holding? (S2) What does the porter pretend to be in scene 3? (S3) Who discovers the king’s body first and why? (S3) What happens to Duncan’s guards? (S3) Where do Duncan’s sons go? (S3) What happens to Macbeth in scene four? (S4)

Raise hands to share and discuss quotes; where they are and what you think they mean. Soliloquy. After his talk with Banquo in scene 1, Macbeth talks to himself. Re-read this final section of the scene and describe what happens. Lady Macbeth. Find two quotations to show Lady Macbeth’s support or role in Duncan’s murder in Act 2. Dramatic Irony. This is when a character says something without fully realizing the significance of what they just said. What does the porter compare Macbeth’s castle to and how is this a form of dramatic irony? Supernatural. Describe two unnatural occurrences that are discussed in scene 4. Why is nature or God angry?
