4 Canada - Government Parliamentary Democracy – members of Parliament are elected to the Senate of the House of Commons. Federation – government has layers: Federal, Provicial, Local

5 Canadian – Government (Executive and Legislative Branch)
Constitutional Monarchy Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II is the Queen of Canada Governor General is the Queen’s representative. Is considered a “figurehead”. No real power. A part of both Executive and Legislative Branch

6 Canadian – Government (Executive Branch)
Prime Minister – Stephen Harper Prime Minister is the leader of the political party that elects the most members to Parliament. Part of the Cabinet of the Executive Branch.

7 Senate and House of Commons (Legislative Branch)
Politicians appointed to the senate on the Prime Minister’s recommendation A part of the Legislative Branch House of Commons There are Government members and Opposition Members that are elected by voters. A part of the Legislative Branch

8 Judiciary-Supreme Court of Canada
Nine judges appointed by the Governor General Federal Court of Canada Judges/Rules everywhere except Provinces Provincial Courts Judges/Rules Provinces not Territories
