2 The Center’s Mission The Penn State Justice Center for Research bridges the gap between research and practice, fosters a rigorous research agenda that advances criminological theory and criminal justice policy, and uses an engaged university model to transfer criminological knowledge into the practitioner and policy communities. Located within the College of the Liberal Arts Supports faculty and student research Connects scholars to agency partners and vice versa

Courts and Sentencing The Administration of the Death Penalty in Pennsylvania PI: Jeff Ulmer (funded by PA Interbranch Commission and Falk Foundation) Corrections and Re-Entry Prison Inmate Networks Studies (PINS) PI: Derek Kreager (funded by NSF, NIJ, NIH and partnered with PADOC) Substance Abuse and Treatment Identifying and Informing Strategies for Disrupting Drug Distribution Networks: An Application to Opiate Flows in Pennsylvania PI: Glenn Sterner (Funded by NIJ and partnered with PSP) Policy and Evaluation Honest Opportunity Probation with Enforcement (HOPE) Evaluation PI: Gary Zajac (funded by NIJ)

9 Post-Doctoral Research Position
Fixed-term renewable position for support of specific and pre-identified projects or faculty members pursuing research agendas with high probability for future growth and funding Will rotate approximately every 2 years posting will support Dr. Eric Baumer Future proposals will be requested for the position that begins in 2019

SSRI-led initiative to consolidate individual-level state agency records Intent to include CJ agencies and criminal justice outcomes (PSP, PADOC, PCS) Opioid crisis as organizing example Currently working with government relations to propose to executive and legislative branches May result in future (joint) funding opportunities and data resources

12 Graduate Research Award
Goal: Support promising graduate student research (MA or Phd) in the area of criminal justice. Award: $2000 summer funding for up to two students Application details released Fall, 2017, with a deadline of 15 Jan 2018. Awardees will present their research in a criminology forum.

13 Agency Support Facilitate connections with agency partners for the purposes of research and evaluation Examples: PA Dept of Corrections PA Commission on Sentencing PA State Police Center for Rural PA NIJ (e.g., dissertation awards) NSF, NIH, etc.
