1 What is happening in the picture? Why is it happening?
Where do you think this could be happening? What are the impacts on people of this? 2008 1989 2003 Title and LO: How can a healthy hydrological cycle be threatened by humans?

2 What is the impact of Urbanisation and deforestation on the water cycle?

3 The lag time is the time between peak rainfall and peak discharge
This is called a storm hydrograph. It shows the effect of urban growth and Urbanisation (more people living in cities) on discharge - the amount of water in the river, and how long before the flood peak is reached. Flood peak

4 Watch the video; 1. What have people done to the ‘rivers’ part of the water cycle that has led to the Aral sea shrinking? 2. List two economic, social and environmental impacts of the Aral sea shrinking. 1989 2003 2008

5 1. What could be the impact of over abstraction on the water cycle?
Over abstraction means too much water is being taken from the river, lake or other water source. 1. What could be the impact of over abstraction on the water cycle? Asia news

6 What are the advantages and disadvantages of building a dam for Hydro electric power? The River Angara in Siberia The Ebro river dam in Spain When a hydroelectric dam is built a reservoir is formed behind it. This can be used to make renewable hydroelectric power. The reservoir can be used for water supply and recreation e.g. sailing and fishing. Water is stored in the reservoir and eventually passes through the dam downstream to the sea as part of the water cycle.

7 Plenary Exam question: 4 marks
Using examples; show how different water uses can have unintended effects. HEP; Overabstraction; reservoir/dam building Identify the Command words Point example explain (twice)
