2 The inherited traits of the Jaguar
The jaguar has yellow and tan fur that can change to reddish brown to black. It has black and brown spots covering the fur. It helps them camouflage in the desert and grass.

3 The jaguar’s special features
It’s eyes help it to hunt at night. It’s ears help it to hear it’s prey that is close by. It needs it’s mouth in order to swallow prey in one bite.

5 Jaguar habitat The jaguar lives in Central and South America.
It lives in forests, rainforests, swamps, pampas, grasslands and mountains.

6 The jaguar hunts both at night and during the day.
It’s prey is deer, peccary, crocodiles, snakes, monkeys, sloths, tapirs, turtles, eggs, frogs, fish, and anything else it can catch.

7 Behaviors The jaguar has learned how to live with other animals.
A group of jaguars is called a Jamboree. Male jaguars sometimes will take females with him and protect the female from other males so that only he can mate with her.

8 When a jaguar roars, it sounds like a big, chesty cough.
Interesting Facts Some people think that the jaguar gets it’s spotty coat by dabbing mud on it’s coat with it’s paw. When a jaguar roars, it sounds like a big, chesty cough.

Unlike other cats, the jaguar likes to swim, bathe, and play in the water. The jaguar is the largest cat in the Americas.
