2 COPD Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease
Difficulty breathing, wheezing, and a chronic cough Includes bronchitis, and emphysema.

3 CVA Cerebrovascular Accident Also called a stroke
Part of the brain does not get enough oxygen, dies and can no longer function.

4 HIV Human Immunodeficiency Virus The virus that causes AIDS.

5 MI Myocardial infarction Heart attack

6 MS Multiple Sclerosis Disease of the central nervous system.
Gradual destruction of myelin throughout the brain and/or spinal cord. causes muscular weakness, loss of coordination,speech and visual problems. usually occurs in young adults. may be genetic.

7 PID Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
Infection of the upper female reproductive tract.

8 PMS Premenstrual Syndrome
Group of symptoms related to the menstrual cycle. Includes both physical and emotional symptoms.

9 S/S Signs and symptoms Signs – what you can see, hear, feel, smell
Symptom – what the patient feels

11 STD Sexually Transmitted Disease

12 TIA Trans-ischemic attack TIA or Mini-strokes.
Occur when a small blood clot blocks an artery leading to the brain for a short time.

13 PP Postpartum Time after giving child birth

14 PVD Peripheral Vascular Disease
Diseases of blood vessels in the arms or legs. May cause pain in exercising or walking.
