3. Contrasts & Contradictions (Weird)
When a character says or does something that is opposite (contradicts) of what he or she has been doing or saying all along- STOP and ASK:
“Why is the character doing that?”
The answers could help you make a prediction or inference about the plot and conflict.

5. Aha Moment
When you’re reading and suddenly a character realizes, understands, or finally figures something out- STOP and ASK:
“How might this change things?”
If the character figured out a problem, you probably learned more about the conflict.
If the character understood a life lesson, you probably learned the theme.
