1 Chapter 13 Science Test Notes
Plant Processes

2 I Like Plants…I Love Plants!
Plant cells can differentiate many times throughout a plant’s life. Hormones cause plants to develop in response to certain stimuli.

3 If a plant gets light from only one direction, the shoots will likely grow toward the light source.
Plantlets, tubers, and runners are used by plants for asexual reproduction.

4 If I Study, I could be a botanist. How Exciting!!!
Water, air, and warm temperatures are environmental factors required for germination. When I go to McDonald’s, I order a happy meal.

5 What did one plant say to the other plant?
After fertilization takes place in a flower, the ovary develops into a fruit. After fertilization takes place in a flower, the ovule develops into a seed.

6 I have no idea. Plants don’t talk.
The process in which a sperm fuses with an egg in the ovule is called fertilization. Photosynthesis provides oxygen needed for cellular respiration.

7 Plant cells need energy in glucose that is released by mitochondria.
Energy captured by chloroplasts for photosynthesis comes from the sun.

8 Stomata allow carbon dioxide to enter the leaf during photosynthesis.
A plant seed develops from an ovule. The energy that chloroplasts capture for photosynthesis comes from sunlight.

9 Plant cells can differentiate many times.
A plant that grows toward light is showing a positive tropism. Plants and animals need oxygen for cellular respiration.

10 The green pigment in plants is called chlorophyll.
Pollen is not used by plants to make food. The process that plants use to make their own food is called photosynthesis.

11 After a flower is fertilized, its ovary becomes a fruit.
A seed does not need a drought to sprout. Anything that causes a reaction or change in an organism is called a stimulus.

12 Color changes in leaves and leaf drop are brought about by hormones.
Cellular respiration enables plants and animals to use oxygen. A houseplant that is bending toward a sunlit window is displaying positive tropism.

13 Have a Nice Day!
