1 Plants can reproduce either asexually or sexually
Plant Reproduction Plants can reproduce either asexually or sexually

2 Asexual Reproduction Occurs when one part of a plant develops into a separate new plant identical to the parent Adavantages: only takes one parent

3 Sexual Reproduction Requires two parents organisms
Combines plant sperm & egg It’s a combination of both plants genetics

4 Alternations of Generations
Plants have 2 life stages called generations The life cycle of an organisms alternates between diploid and haploid generations

5 Diploid When you look at a tree or a flower you’re seeing the diploid generation The diploid generation begins with fertilization

6 Haploid The haploid generation is tiny and lives surrounded by special tissues of the diploid plant There are haploid structures called spores

7 Seedless plants Ferns and mosses grow form haploid spores
Not all plants grow from seeds

8 Seed Plants Most land plants from seeds
In seed plants, pollination occurs when pollen grains land on the female reproductive structure of a plant of the same species

9 Pistil ( stigma, style, ovary, ovule)
Female Pistil ( stigma, style, ovary, ovule) Male Stamen ( anther, filament)

10 How pollen moves

11 Watch Pollinators Insects like bees and ants birds Mice
Other small animals Watch

12 watch Pollination Pollination occurs after pollen lands on the stigma
A pollen tube grows down the style to the ovary The pollen fertilizes the ovule A zygote develops into an embryo which becomes a seed watch

13 Angiosperms vs. Gymnosperms
A flowering seed plant Flowerless seed plant Animals eat fruits and vegetables that come from angiosperms Not surrounded by fruit Alternation of generations

14 Lets explore angiosperms
